Speaking only for myself here... Most custom-fitted seat covers require the removal of the headrest. Once the cover is on, you can slide the headrest back through the slots. You can certainly just grab a scissors and cut the opening wider, but fitted covers are $$$... I assume no one is removing...

Whatever you do, DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THESE. The second row headrests have some sort of cable connected to the seat release that makes the headrests fold down automatically. Because of this, the headrests simply cannot be removed. I say this from experience... I used the same method as you would...
