For science, I confirmed you can lower the steering wheel to brush your legs and be hands free (had sweatpants on). The system does pretty well, but it will lose the lanes enough that I wouldn't suggest this as your hands do need to be ready any moment. Grinded away lanes in construction zone lane shift areas are guaranteed to confuse the system.I confimed above that Highway Assist System is what Base Active Driving Assist is called on the Jeep Compass. So the build tool just has the wrong name for the feature (in addition to having the right name).
Jeep’s ADA does indeed use capacitance sensors in the outer rim of the steering wheel. (The manual even cautions you to make sure you don’t just touch the inner rim.)
