Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve puts itself in park problem

Today while driving our new GC L Summit Reserve we were slowing for a stop light and a message came on the speedometer screen saying to put the car in park. At the time we were still travelling approximately 10 miles per hour so we of course couldn't put the car in park... When we did get stopped at the light and tried to start out again we noticed that the car had put itself in "park" and we could not change it out of park. Out of frustration and trying a number of different things, we eventually shut the ignition off and restarted the car and this did allow us to put the car in gear. It was a very unnerving situation... has anyone else had this happen?

Not sure if this will help. From the owners manual -

122 STARTING AND OPERATING
If the vehicle is not in PARK and the driver turns off
the engine, the vehicle may AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage when all of these conditions
are met:
 Vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed
transmission
 Vehicle is not in PARK
 Vehicle speed is 1.2 mph (1.9 km/h) or less
NOTE:
For Keyless Enter ‘n Go™ equipped vehicles, the
engine will turn off and the ignition switch will
change to the ON/RUN position. After 30 minutes
the ignition switches to OFF automatically, unless
the driver turns the ignition switch OFF.
If the vehicle is not in PARK and the driver exits the
vehicle with the engine running, the vehicle may
AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage when all of these conditions
are met:
 Vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed transmission
 Vehicle is not in PARK
 Vehicle speed is 1.2 mph (1.9 km/h) or less
 Driver’s seat belt is unbuckled
 Driver’s door is ajar
 Brake pedal is not pressed
The message “AutoPark Engaged Shift to P then
Shift to Gear” will display in the instrument cluster.
NOTE:
In some cases the ParkSense graphic will be
displayed in the instrument cluster. In these cases,
the gear selector must be returned to “P” to select
desired gear.
If the driver shifts into PARK while moving, the
vehicle may AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage ONLY when vehicle speed is
1.2 mph (1.9 km/h) or less.
The message “Vehicle Speed is Too High to Shift to
P” will be displayed in the instrument cluster if
vehicle speed is above 1.2 mph (1.9 km/h).

Thank you for the help KySummit! There must be some sort of glitch though, the door was shut as we were driving, the seatbelt was buckled and we were definitely moving faster than 1.2 mph when the message came up on the speedometer cluster. We are loving the car and have only about 700 miles on it so far... It seems though that the car is a little glitchy.

We are also having as many have noted some issues with the U-Connect and the transmission has a number of spots where there are very hard shifts. Hoping that the rig being new will have some of these things taken care of with software updates?
