Driver assist and autonomous functions

So, I just got back from a 5000 mile cross country trip. I was suppose to take the GCL, but it was not delivered in time, so I took a rental. It was a decked out Ford Expedition Max.

Traveling on the interstate is getting scary. I had three situations in 5000 miles, where a trucker tried to run me off the road....

Now, I am a car guy ... I buy a car to drive it ... not be whisked around by some AI tech. I don't really care for autonomous driving, etc.

After those three incidents I spoke of, I am turning all that crap off.

The driving assists collision avoidance systems solution was to auto brake and disable the throttle. I could literally do nothing except steer the car. pressing the brakes or accelerator did nothing ... I was coasting.

Not that I am Mario Andretti or anything, but I could have powered out of the situations if the electronics would have let me. The reason I bring this up is because of some of the discussions I have been reading regarding 2021/2022 L2 capabilities, etc.

autonomous driving is a gimmick. Maybe some day we will get to L5 and the story will change. But, until then, I will turn that off and practice honing my defensive driving skills. That should not be a major decision point for people debating 2021 vs 2022.

Get the car because you want it and enjoy it and drive it! forget about the autonomous crap
