WK2 Limited De-Chroming Project

As you may know, this 2019 WK2 is my first Grand Cherokee after owning several Dodge cars. I’ve always been drawn to sportier vehicles, so buying a Grand Cherokee with a bunch of chrome on it wasn’t really part of the plan. However, I obviously did buy one, so now I’ve decided to de-chrome it. On this specific vehicle, the purple + small wheels + chrome was working against me to make it feel like an old lady car, and that just won’t do, so it’s time to fix that problem.

There aren’t many photos of Sangria WK2s out there so I had to photoshop it with gloss black pieces to imagine what it will look like. Basically, every piece of chrome on this vehicle is going to be black, save for the side window trim which I may or may not have wrapped at some point. I’m not super worried about that piece for now.

The first change is swapping 18” wheels for black 20” rims. I’ve ordered a new set of gloss black Durango R/T wheels and Jeep center caps. I liked the design of this wheel better than Jeep’s Altitude wheel.

Same wheel as this:

I ordered from Mopar through our parts department because I was having trouble finding these anywhere else online. The wheels, center caps, and locking lugs should be here today or tomorrow but the tires are going to take a day or two longer to arrive. I’ll probably have the wheels put on at the beginning of next week because even if it all arrives tomorrow, it’s going to be raining this weekend so it would just get dirty immediately.

The next step is body-color mirror caps and door handles. I’ve ordered unpainted door handles and pre-painted gloss black mirror caps, but I’m going to have all of that painted in Sangria because I don’t think black would look right on it. That may be a few weeks down the road depending on how long the parts take to arrive.

I‘ll keep this thread updated with the modifications I make. Why let the Wrangler owners have all the fun with modifications, right?

I waxed it this weekend using Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax. One of my black roof rails has arrived. I'm hoping the other one shows up today or tomorrow.

Tinted the rear reflectors and added black overlays to the Jeep emblems to cut down on the chrome a bit. Definitely need the gloss black tail lamp bezels now to complete the look on the rear. I'm going to order the stage 2 (1230 lumens) LED reverse lights from Diode Dynamics and replace those at the same time. I'm also considering doing a light 50% tint over the upper part of the tail lights but I'm not sure yet. The air release tint for the reflectors was from Crux Motorsports and it was very easy to work with.

The other door handles arrived today and as a nice surprise, they were pre-painted in Sangria so I won’t have to deal with a body shop. I’m getting them installed next Wednesday.

Looks like you're off to a great start!
Thanks. I'm not sure I'm going to fully de-chrome it - I might leave the chrome accents up front so it doesn't look too cheap. A lighter color would work better with all black accents IMO, but I may change my mind. That's why, for now, I've just put the decals on the Jeep emblems to match the black + chrome Grand Cherokee emblem on the sides.

I installed the black roof rails, but one doesn't fit quite right so I'm doing a warranty claim on it and haven't taken photos yet. Also received my black tail light bezels today but haven't put them on yet.

Black roof rails and black tail lamp bezels are on. LED reverse lights are also installed.

The bezels were pretty easy to put on. I can provide instructions if anyone needs them.

Added body color door handles and black “4x4” and “Limited” badges.

Aside from front window tint, I think I’m done.
