wingless' Special Order WL Grand Cherokee - Still Waiting

Long time lurker here...

There has been a LONG wait for me replacing my current ride, the '94 ZJ Grand Cherokee I special-ordered oh so long ago.

My current plan is to special-order a loaded WL Grand Cherokee Overland (2-row), but I am waiting until I can get what I want for my vehicle. This is my current configuration: Hydro Blue Pearl Coat Exterior Paint (currently unavailable on dealership site); Bright Side Steps; 10.1" NAV Display; Passenger Display; Advanced Pro Tech Group III; Luxury Tech Group IV; Off-Road Group (currently unavailable on dealership site) and 5.7L V8 HEMI engine (evidently not available). Also my vehicle will be purchased using the FCA Affiliate Rewards Program that currently doesn't include the 2-row Grand Cherokee, as of the February 18, 2022 update.

So I will continue waiting... My ZJ has been / continues to be a terrific / dependable vehicle (knocking on wood) that is 100% owner serviceable. I will miss that aspect most when changing to the WL. I personally rebuilt everything on my ZJ.

IMO the thing I dislike most about the WL are the colors. WHY do we need four shades of black? They eliminated THE BEST COLOR, for only the Grand Cherokee, retaining it for all other models, the Sting-Gray Clear Coat Exterior Paint. Jeep, please restore Sting-Gray to the Grand Cherokee.

Sooo, if the intentionally destroyed supply chain remains effed up, then I will continue waiting, perhaps until the next model year. If so, then maybe they will change to include better / different colors. I am ready to order whenever Jeep is ready.

With all those options added to the Overland wouldn't the Summit be a better bang the buck?

The price is fine (all are waaay too high)

Also really don't like the two tone exterior paint job (for my vehicle), having the black roof, prefer the Overland monotone color.

It is not looking good for me to special order my loaded 2022 Overland. My strong guess is that this will instead be a 2023 Overland.

There is zero delay on my part. Jeep, I am ready when you are. My loaded configuration is not available.

Jeep, we DON'T need to retain FOUR shades of black exterior paint color for 2023! Jeep, please restore Sting Gray color, on the Grand Cherokee for 2023.

Here are the Chrysler Trucks (Build Out Final Order Start Up Dates), last updated 3/15/2022, the Grand Cherokee is the only model still "accepting orders".

Talked to sales guys today.

No go on: Hydro Blue Pearl Coat Exterior Paint; Off Road Group and 5.7L HEMI V8 Engine.

Also 2-row Grand Cherokee still not listed in Affiliate Rewards Program.

Good time to sit tight and wait...

Jeep, this falls firmly into the you snooze you lose category.

So, instead of the ongoing unknown duration indefinite waiting before I can place my order for my loaded Overland 2-row, w/ more and more configuration options becoming unavailable, I have instead ordered a different vehicle from a different manufacturer, w/ expected delivery the end of July.

My 2022 Porsche Macan has approximately the same sticker cost and looks to be an amazing vehicle.

This will be the first time in almost 50 years where my butt will not find a Jeep vehicle in my driveway...

This will be my third new Porsche. I can't wait. My daughter and I were at the dealership at 11AM and there were three build slots remaining. When I contacted my sales guy at 4PM w/ my final configuration I got the last build slot. Woo hoo.

My wife has a Macan as well and loves it. I like the sporty feel of the drive. My biggest negative of the Macan is that it's so low to the ground so you can't see over cars as well as you can in a GC.

I used to drive a Porsche Cayenne Turbo then switch to a Jeep GC Summit. The extra room is what's important to me because I'm 6' 4". But Porches are definitely a fun ride.

I'm still waiting on my GC SR 4xe after ordering in December. I gotta say, the only other car I've really considered comparable is the Cayenne plugin hybrid.

Also previously owned a 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. That car was amazing and scary fast. It got waaay too expensive after the warranty expired and it needed to be sold. I might need to flip this every four years to maintain a warranty, still undecided on that aspect.

Agreed on the lower seat height for lesser visibility.

If Jeep permitted me to order, then I would have been the queue for my loaded 2-row Overland, but I am done w/ this absurd waiting.

Pretty sure uber expensive applies to all vehicles that are impossible for owner servicing.

My '94 ZJ has been fully rebuilt / upgraded by me turning the wrenches. Those days are gone w/ new vehicles including the new Grand Cherokee.

REALLY loving that Porsche provides a build date and an ETA for the vehicle arriving in the Jacksonville port.

There are 100% of customers that would LOVE / expect Jeep to also show this level of respect to people plunking down HUGE sums of cash that supports their business.

Every single person who orders a Jeep expects realistic dates that are satisfied and to remain informed throughout the process.

My 2022 Macan was collected using the Porsche Delivery Experience at their Atlanta US headquarters.

They do an AMAZING job for that delivery, including a full tour, race track time, wet skid circle time, 0-60-0 runs and kick plate runs (faster and faster towards a wet polished epoxy surface that randomly kicks the rear wheels right or left, then once control is regained attempt to steer between pop-up/pop-down barriers), followed by an AMAZING meal in their top floor restaurant. Driving was done on their vehicle, while mine sat safely in their showroom.

This was followed by an east coast road trip, up to NH, then back to FL, visiting family and friends along the way.

This vehicle is exceptional and I have ZERO hesitation with recommending it to others. Porsche hit every promised date.

The optional additional 4 years of service contract was purchased, for 5 years total, because unlike every other vehicle I've owned, I will be unable to turn the wrenches on this amazing machine. I'm limited to washing and vacuuming this vehicle.

The paint job is perfect. It exceeds any expectations I could have ever conceived.

Here's my other "new" car, a gorgeous Ensign Blue 1979 CJ-5 Renegade w/ 304 V8 and 3-speed transmission.

My first vehicle, five decades ago, was my father's new Canary Yellow 1972 CJ-5 w/ 232 I6 and 3-speed transmission. I've been looking for a good example and found, purchased and had this CA vehicle shipped to FL in an enclosed trailer.

My 1994 ZJ Grand Cherokee that I special-ordered almost three decades ago, that I rebuilt every single system myself, will finally be sold for someone different to love. It is still an excellent ZJ.

The CJ-5 will be my toy for driving and for wrench turning (I have a pile of part cartons waiting for me to install, others not yet arrived), while the Macan will be limited to driving and washing, w/ the dealership taking care of the mechanicals.
