Vehicle Wireless (AT&T) & Wireless Car Play

A frustrating situation that I hope someone can assist with... We have a new 2021 Overland L and it features the Wireless Car Play which is great, but I have also had vehicle wireless (AT&T) which basically is rendered useless due to the fact the Apple Car Play disables the AT&T connection. I have read on other forums (i.e. VW, BMW, etc. but I do not own these) that this is an issue as well with other vehicles with wireless charging. I also understand you can only have one wireless connection so either it is Car Play Wireless or ATT connections. This is frustrating as our boys use the wireless in the car at times. What I think my options are:

  1. Just use one of our phones as a hot spot for the wireless connection for boys (or others) and delete service to ATT.
  2. Plug phones in via cable and maintain ATT wireless connection
If other options are known, please let me know. At this time I do not see the value in the ATT service but do not know if I can use the phone hot spot and wireless Car Play at the same time as well (same issue perhaps?).

The att service is not useful for everyone. In my case I have 2 kids that use the att connection for their iPads to stream Netflix and Disney plus. Att also comes with a free program called WarnerRide that only works over the vehicle WiFi. The kids can stream content from that and they also have an offering of live tv channels. I don’t think the WiFi connection was intended to replace the drivers phone connection. If you have a phone on CarPlay it most likely has its own service. I’ve tried streaming 2 iPads from my phones WiFi hotspot and that’s a no go. Not to mention the battery life of my phone dies trying. With the the in vehicle hotspot streaming to the 2 tablets is flawless and fast. That is a great service worth the money for me as a parent. Once they are older and have phones with a plan themselves this service probably won’t be worth it for me anymore but right now I’m not complaining!

The response I got from Jeep (I confirmed this as well with my techs - I work at a major auto manf). Going to try car play via cable to see if wifi will connect... the did however end the email back with reminder of the notice of the recall on my vehicle...

"I have been researching into the problem you have been having with using the Wi-Fi and Apple Carplay at the same time. I have spoken with our Uconnect Specialists in regards to your problem and they did confirm that the vehicle itself will not allow you to use both features at the same time. I had also confirmed that there isn't a way that this can be changed. I am really sorry about all of the inconvenience and frustration this is causing you, especially after just purchasing a new vehicle. I can understand why you would be upset about this."

It’s not the vehicle that’s the problem. The WiFi hotspot and CarPlay are 2 different networks. The phone itself cannot connect to 2 networks at the same time. FCA cannot fix this

Agreed... just trying to figure out a workaround to it. Going to try plugging in the phone via cable or shutting down the "android -XXX" network etc.

Why would you connect your phone to the hotspot in the jeep? Your phone has it's own data connection.
