UConnect/Apple CarPlay issues

I’m having frustrating issues with Apple CarPlay. Both, my iPhone X and my wife’s iPhone 12, are no longer able to use CarPlay after 2 days of ownership. They were working fine when we left the dealership in our GCL Summit, but by the next day, Carplay disappeared from the apps menu, and UConnect gets stuck “connecting” to the phone. So far my only work around is to do a factory reset from the UConnect menu. However the problem comes back in less than a day. If I avoid a factory reset and just try to delete the connection (from both UConnect and our phones) and re-establish it, UConnect only sees our phones as music and calling capable. The CarPlay function completely disappears in UConnect. I’m not really sure what causes it, at first I thought it was because my wife used the usb cable instead of wireless CarPlay. But it happened again, without any cable use.
Anyone having any similar issues with Apple CarPlay in their GCL?

Any suggestions for a workaround that doesn’t involve losing all of our presets and profiles?

I contacted UConnect but they could only offer me a call back from a tech rep. I’ll be contacting my local service department tomorrow, but after googling around to find a solution, I’m not confident Stellantis has a fix, since CarPlay issues are affecting 2020 vehicles and other versions of UConnect.
I got a GCL Limited, and start having the same problem since day 2. I go to settings/reset/restart that normally fix it. Still waiting for a recall or something this is anoying that over $50k car comes with this issue.

Today marks day 40 in total being in service for radio/uconnect issues! Its horrible that its taking this long to get sorted out. Seems the holdup is STAR, they keep going back/forth with them and having to wait for what to do next.

My CarPlay seems to connect intermittently wirelessly, but I have very little time with it and have largely used it with the wired connection.

I also once had the main 10" screen go dark for no reason. I switched the headlights from 'auto' to 'off', and the screen came back on (it was on the whole time, but it was EXTREMELY dim - just bright enough I could make out that it was still powered on, which is what made me think to try turning the headlights off and on.

Screen flickers all the time. Programmed volume levels don’t save/ don’t work. Wireless CarPlay still hit and miss, even with all the updates. Head unit reset no longer corrects any issues. Wearing on my last nerve.

I have had...
1. Screen turning black for no reason, then coming back. This is linked to headlights changing from on to off while I drive in early am or vice versa at dusk.
2. Screen rebooting/locking up. During the crash/reboot a loud hissing noise is played and is alarmingly loud. Pee your pants loud while driving due to the sudden increase in volume
3. Audio issues resulting in very quiet sound. This is due to the amplifier not booting up/turning on. Sometimes while driving the audio dies, turn volume to 38 but sounds like 5. I have to reset the radio pressing the volume and tuning button in at the same time to reboot the radio
4. Wireless Carplay does not work ever. Maybe twice in 3 months.
5. Bluetooth audio will have hit and miss issues with audio quality
6. Profiles linked to phones will not switch automatically
7. Any change in phones from driver A to driver B has to be manually changed, despite the phone being miles away, it shows as connected to the other phone. When trying to switch from the phone that shows connected, which is miles away, it will not connect to the new phone which is present, it says connecting and fails.

I don't even care about the above yet as I just wish to drive longer than 30 minutes without a MIL lamp on. Latest was service 4WD immediately. Eventually when my brakes stop locking up, 4wd works, and ABS starts working I will complain about this.

We are having issues with the Apple Carplay as well, wired and wireless mode. It doesn't seem to do it in the Bluetooth only though.
My guess is it's an issue on Apple's end as well as their are apple forums with different vehicles having the same issue - sort of a cutting out static noise now and then.

This really needs to get solved soon!

Having the same issue too with CarPlay. Doesn't work through BT or wired. I'll reset UConnect with the volume/tuner combo and CarPlay will work after that reset and then one more time after the car has been turned off. When I start the car again for a second time, back to not recognizing my iPhone. Anyone out there with a similar situation?

Not sure if this has been shared, but researched tonight and it might help others. Waiting on my 2022 GC Summit, so don’t have a new Uconnect 5 to test it on

https://www.howtoisolve.com/carplay.../#Solution_7_Carplay_stopped_working_Uconnect

Solution 7: Carplay stopped working Uconnect

Uconnect users found issues with Uconnect while they are connecting iPhone via USB lighting cable. Check out the below troubleshooting for this problem.

  • You have to delete your iPhone from Carplay Bluetooth settings, Go to Apps home screen on CarPlay > Settings > Bluetooth, and Remove iPhone from Bluetooth.
  • Next, Unplug your Phone before restarting your Car, and check after restarting your car, and connecting your iPhone with CarPlay.
  • Update CarPlay from your iPhone:– Make sure your iphone is updated to Get CarPlay fix. Go to the Settings app on iPhone > General > Software Update. That’s it.

You’ll find that this will not fix it. Others on here will chime in. I don’t think Jeep even knows how to fix it at this point.

Mine worked fine for the first few days and it has now so completely defecated the bed I wish I hadn’t bought it. Dealer has ordered some parts but is hoping for a new software update. It’s a total electrical lemon so far. Electrically, it’s the worst vehicle I’ve owned out of 25 cars over the last 30 plus years.

Welp, the management at my dealer has now said they will no longer work on my issue and can't offer me any advice!

I keep saying this…. CarPlay is great, wireless CarPlay is complete garbage. Jeep isn’t the only auto manufacture having problems. The issue (in my opinion is) a car company is not a software company and they aren’t pulling in the same talent to code as something like an Apple or Google or even Tesla. It’s become more and more evident that many car companies are struggling to catch up on this front.

I don’t have my Vehicle yet, it’s sitting on a train somewhere. For all of you having issues with wireless CarPlay…. Is the wired version at least still working?

Sometimes mine will work via wired, most times not. Sometimes it won't even let me change the volume (even listening to FM radio). You turn the knob or use the steering wheel controls and the numbers on the screen move up and down indicating it's changing the volume, but it just stays at the same volume. And the speakers/door panels rattle on certain frequencies. Sometimes the whole screen just repeatedly reboots and won't let you adjust *anything* via Uconnect. It's totally FUBAR.

Time to file a claim with FCA
I know, it’s illegal to refuse warranty related work in any state. Yes it has been it was in the dealer for 4 weeks because of this but that’s not my fault, they were waiting for star to get back to them trying different things before they finally decided to replace the radio. STAR wanted them to have me bring it back in and try another radio to hopefully solve the app missing issue I guess but dealer decided they will no longer assist in this issue and I guess that means my dash issue I have also.

Has yours not been drivable because of the Connect issues, or are you just leaving it with them until they make it work?
My dealer ordered 'a new stereo' which won't come in for a few more weeks, which is infuriating, but it's still drivable, just with no use of all the functionality associated with Uconnect and stereo/nav/etc.
The deciding factor in choosing this over the Tahoe diesel was the McIntosh system (and night vision camera), so the fact that it's such a mess (other issues too) really makes me regret my decision. I wish I'd taken a working Bose system and 28mpg over no sound and 13pmg for the same money at this point...

We got our Summit Reserve in November’s. It’s always been a hit or miss for me when wireless CarPlay works. The phone also gets super hot on the charger. It does not get hot when on my wireless charger in my Chevy.

Oh well, figured first year and especially in this world probably using cchips, or materials from ew/different manufacturers… expensive oh well to have CarPlay work intermittently. Luckily on all of my long drives it has worked.

Good luck!

Do your drinks in the cupholders get warm, and is the inside of the arm rest warm? Mine and others have this issue, and there also isn't a very strong airflow to the rear heater vents which is supposedly due to the ducting not being put together properly up in the front (so all the hot air channels into that center tunnel). Something to check.

Ah, thanks for the tip! It’s out of alignment (eyeroll) so while that is getting fixed I’ll have them check that!
