Agree with this comment.
be careful acting on recommendations to restart system.
mine went from not connecting (CarPlay) to bricked.
online agent have lovely attitude but not really much help.
collecting Vins means that this is a wide spread problem and they don’t have a clue.

Well I got a call from Jeep about all my radio issues... They asked if I scheduled the visit to the dealer yet...I did this a month ago and they could not do anything of me because there was no update for the radio.
So now I get to schedule again, to go sit in a lobby while I wait for a few more hours again wasting my time with a new vehicle that should not have these issues.
This is just sad Jeep. I did not pay this much to run and sit at a dealership. I am hoping this Connect trial gets extended whenever it works properly.

I have the same issue. Had the GCL Summit Reserve for a couple of weeks and CarPlay works intermittently. It seems to act finicky when I mess with the car WiFi. When I try to connect to the car WiFi on my phone it tells me that connecting to WiFi will disconnect CarPlay. Why? Also, when we have phones connected (confirmed on the phones) to the car WiFi and go into the WiFi settings in the car and it shows that no devices are connected. It just sounds like there a some glitches in the system and I hope they get fixed because I forked out a ton of money on this thing. I love pretty much everything else about this vehicle though!

I have had a GCL Overland for 2 weeks, during which the Apple Carplay had been working fine. Today, for no reason, my phone stopped connecting to Carplay and the app disappeared. Tried multiple ways of reestablishing with no success. I found this forum and see that this was a common problem. Also found the suggested steps that was posted by JeepCares on 9/12...Carplay is currently working!!!

This is now what happens when I got Market on the radio. I have even connected to the home wifi, I have tried to setup the hotspot and that does not work. I put name and password in then go back and they are gone on the screen..

Are all the issues happening with the 8.4, 10.1 or both? I am sure they use different back-end computers but wondered if there was a certain trend with the issues.

Mine was a 10.1

Something that took me awhile to figure out was that if your iPhone is connected to wireless CarPlay, simply plugging it in to the usb does not make it wired CarPlay. It will still connect to wireless CarPlay and the cord simply charges the phone. An easy way to tell is if you can see a battery icon on the Uconnect screen for your phone, then it is wireless CarPlay. If you plug your iPhone into the usb, it will still show the battery icon but will show it’s charging, so that is still wireless CarPlay.

I have noticed that real wired CarPlay has better sound quality than wireless and may help those that are having problems connecting. To turn off wireless CarPlay go to iPhone settings > General > CarPlay > Uconnect. Once there you will see a green toggle that says CarPlay. Turn this off and keep it off. This is the setting that allows wireless CarPlay. You will still be able to use CarPlay through the usb. You will notice there is no battery icon on the Uconnect screen, confirming it is wired CarPlay. The only downside is that you have to unlock your phone after plugging it in in order to use it.

I know this doesn’t fix the wireless CarPlay issues you all have been having, but I have noticed that using wireless CarPlay kills my battery and using it with the wireless charger causes my phone to get really hot, so I prefer wired CarPlay anyways.

I agree with everything you wrote.

I’ve had tons of issues as well where it’s continuously in ‘connecting’ mode with CarPlay and one issue was definitely in-car WiFi.

I believe that CarPlay uses a Bluetooth connection first in order to initiate the WiFi necessary for CarPlay, so any errant WiFi networks that your phone remembers are definitely an issue.

When that’s not the cause, I’ve found that a quick soft reset (settings —> scroll all the way to bottom —> reset —> reset radio) has worked every single time. Total time to do this is under :60.

It took me awhile to figure this out also. It’s weird that the phone has to be unlocked every time. In my 19 GC, after I plugged it in to CarPlay for the first time, it asked if I wanted to remember this device. After that, I never had to unlock phone to use CarPlay again.

I just got a limited on Monday and CarPlay stopped working for the first time. The fix was the same for me,
(settings —> scroll all the way to bottom —> reset —> reset radio).
Let’s see how long it keeps working until the next reset……….

I never have to unlock my iPhone for it to connect. It’s been working pretty consistently for a while now. I just get in and it connects in a few seconds.

I was talking with a couple of friends about our CarPlay issues in our GCL and they said that the CarPlay on their cars (2021 Suburu Ascent and 2016 Toyota Tacoma) glitches about every other day or when switching between phones to the point that it is unusable at times until they restart the car. The issues they described were pretty identical to what so many on here (including myself) have been experiencing. Maybe it's not a Jeep or GCL specific issues after all.

Hello everyone,

We're doing our best to reach out to all of you and inform you that Stellantis just issued a Safety Recall Y67: 2021 WL Radio Software Update! This was issued as a Safety Recall since it addresses back-up camera concerns, amongst other things. If you'd like a more immediate update, you can absolutely go to the dealership to have this software update completed. I'd be more than happy to get additional support arranged alongside your dealer visit, to ensure that you're properly taken care of and your time is valued. However, you can also wait for a FOTA (firmware-over-the-air) campaign in a few weeks. This software update aims to address the following:
  • Carplay/Android Auto Inoperable
  • Language in Italian
  • Resets
  • Bluetooth Disconnects
  • Blank Screen/Backup Camera
  • Slow to Respond/Lockup
  • Radio inoperative

If you'd like additional support alongside your dealer visit, please send us a private message with your VIN so we can get started.

Thanks,

Courtney

Took delivery of my GCL summit yesterday (9/24) they did the software recall before delivery. Today 9/25 carplay stopped working with the same behavior that everyone is describing.

I have had the issue a couple times where CarPlay stopped working. The way I found it to work again is to reset the infotainment system by pressing and holding down the two dial knobs until it restarts. It's a pain, but it works. Hopefully, the new update will fix that.

I also had problems with my iphone connecting to CarPlay and it seemed to be when my husband was in the car with me with his phone or when he was nearby. So finally I just disconnected his phone from my Grand Cherokee L Summit because I drive it the most anyway and I haven't had an issue since. So for me it just seems to be when you have more than one phone connected. I don't know why because I never had this problem in my 2017 Grand Cherokee limited.
