Tow eye for my Summit

I believe I have found where to secure the tow eye hook. You have to remove these square caps. These are photos of a summit in a Frisco dealership where you can see the front and rear locations.
No idea if this vehicle came with the hook.
Hope this helps!

HELP! Encountered a HUGE problem with my GCL Summit, when reversing out of my local grocery store, I obviously was in reverse, and I could NOT put my vehicle into D, it was getting stuck in Neutral, and I put it on park, let go of the brake, pressed the brake again and tried shifting into Drive and it got stuck on Neutral again.. after about 5 tries, it went into Drive... sounds like a HUGE problem. Just imagining reversing my Jetski into the BoatRamp/Slipway and shifting from Park to Drive and getting stuck in Neutral?

MY TRUCK COULD BE IN THE WATER, Watch out for this issue! Going to the dealership tomorrow.

@JeepCares can you please address how these vehicles are supposed to be towed when there is no where to screw a tow eye in (my jeep did not even come with one) and the owners manual says not to use the suspension?

Thanks,

I have a GC L Summit. It does not come with the installed tow hooks and is supposed to have a tow eye in the tire jack tool kit. Mine is missing. Any one else notice this?

I contacted the dealer but have not heard back yet.

thanks for posting. this answers a question i’ve had about how to tow a Summit… I was going to look into adding the hooks off an overland.
If you really want to tow it, the tow hooks are not the answer. Take it from a wrangler/gladiator off-roader, the tow hooks are the least ideal system for towing and even though they are functional and bolted to the frame they are more for looks. You cannot tow with an open hook, it is merely for a quick attach recovery point.

I have never heard of this, sounds like user error probably. I can think of an array of reasons that would cause this to happen.

Related to the OP question - Anyone with a SR looking to change out the lower front grill in order to install stock recovery hooks? It is a bit frustrating that we can't get recovery hooks as an option on the higher trim levels. Look at the most expensive and nicely appointed interior pickup trucks and you will still find front recovery hooks. I do use these - from pulling shrubs out of the ground, to cars out of the ditch. They are very handy - not just trying to "pose" as an off-roader.

“Pose” lol aka ”i’m a real jeeper“! You don’t need tow hooks, I see a nice jeep in you profile pic that looks great for pulling shrubs! As for the cars out of ditches, you def sound like a jeeper. I’m already ready with recover gear in my rig as well. Just nature when you own a jeep.

Side note, I personally love the looks of the chrome hooks and I have to admit I would put them on to be a poser if I could. I’ll use my JTRD for the recovery stuff!

I have the Summit and have the issue of no eye hook/recovery points! Anyone got any idea on how to add recovery points on the front? I do have tow hitch at the back so I guess I can use that for now. But really looking for something on the front....

It's been several months....anyone seen a solution for front recovery hooks on Summit & Summit Reserve?
I have already had cause to use - to recover someone who got stuck in a flooded road - I ended up having to use the receiver to pull from where I would have preferred to pull backwards (better visibility to the vehicle I was recovering) using front tow hook.

KySummit, You said your dealer ordered a tow hook and they were going to pay for it. What happened when the hook came in? Were they able to attach it, if so, how? It's just ridiculous that they make this fairly capable off road car, and don't put any provision for a front recovery hook on it?

If your foot is on the brake when changing gears, and the vehicle is stationary, I cannot think of a single reason it wouldn't or shouldn't change to the selected gear.
