Very well put and yes you are correct.. I worked in a chip factory or over 10 years and know that it takes a while for a chip to be made from start to finish. It's not just going to go away anytime soon...

I didn't get my order in.... Talked to the dealer yesterday and as he was placing the order, there were restrictions on the luxury packages and he couldn't order. It's almost a good thing, as I am working my numbers, it doesn't appear that I am getting a full 5% under invoice. it's more like 3.3%. I am trying to confirm this information. Like you said they are just another dealer trying to make a buck. From what I have seen, invoice is 64996.00 and they are selling at 62913.00. Am I calculating correctly?
Gupton doesn't do any BS, I can assure you of that. Not sure how you're coming to the numbers there because they do the 5% under invoice all day long. I would just ask them to show you the build sheet. It will have the MSRP and Invoice price listed. From there you can do the math and deduct the 5% and determine actual cost.

In my screenshot below from my build sheet you see the MSRP - which will be the sticker, and the FWP - which is the invoice price. So my 5% below invoice cost would have been $57,747.65. ($5,453 off MSRP/Sticker or $3,039.35 off invoice). Make sense?
You're probably getting some other stuff tossed in that's confusing you (Tax, Tag, Title, Destination Fee, Dealer Fee etc).

Saw on another thread about price increases. I am hoping since I did get a price, order in and a VIN, that I am protected. As much as I want this, I am not sure I would put $3-4K premium on it.
95% sure you will. There is a little price protection box they check off when they submit the build and that locks in the pricing as well as any rebates or incentives that were live when you submitted. In the event the price goes up or the rebates/incentives that were active go away you still get them. You can simply ask them to show you the box to confirm they selected the "Sold Order Protection" box. This is what it looks like and the box they SHOULD be checking03AF71D7-1C33-4813-B6A4-F63BFDB392FE.jpeg:

Thanks….that is logical. This was added to the quote, so, I wonder if that is the result of checking that box.

Yeah so Gupton sent you the sheet with just the MSRP on it, which is how they do it. My dealer sends the one with invoice (FWP) and MSRP on it. For whatever reason Gupton doesn't generally send that one. Ask them to send you the sheet that has the FWP column added in as well so that you can double check the invoice numbers, and they will do so.

Believe me, I am not trying to talk bad about the dealership. They are doing a good job.. I asked for an invoice price and the sales person wouldn't provide me with it, just a sales price. I even provided an invoice price to verify and they said no, this is the sales price. this is my first time trying to do this so I am trying to do it right. no other numbers were provided that would cause the issue as they were not going to charge me tax. I have attached an offer sheet that the dealer sent me. I also attached a build page with invoice numbers that seem to be accurate. With these numbers 5% should be: 61, 746.20. I am only here asking for help and not trying to beat up a dealership. Please tell if I am wrong and show me what I am doing wrong...

Well I did respond with some attachments of my own and it really doesn't matter right now as I am not going to get the Overland because of the restrictions they have put on them. I have however did a build on a Summit and was given numbers that are more in line with the 5% discount. I have the actual invoice number as I got it from another sales person at the dealership as my salesperson was off yesterday. Trying to get the numbers as soon as possible.

Is there any reason why, if you have printable quotes, you couldn't go locally to a dealer and challenge them for a match? It's not personal - it's just business. This would keep you from paying additional expenses like a flight. It is a tactic I have done before shopping places like Atlanta and Kentucky from where I live. I would make absolutely sure they will honor any listed rebates as well - sometimes those only apply to "regional residents" and they may kick out any incentives if you don't live in the zip codes that qualify.

Another perk for getting the local buy is getting loaner cars from them when you take it in for service. If you have read these threads, you more than likely WILL have this car in for service and want the loaner. LOL

I am new to this as well. I have been trying to work a deal with Gupton for a while now and they are coming in at about 3.5% off MSRP. According to the man Ive been speaking with 3.5% off MSRP is invoice. I tried negotiating below invoice, essentially I was told they couldn't do it, but could honor incentives if any were available when the vehicle came in.

Also, when I run the numbers in the example above I am not getting the same totals. I must be doing something wrong. 5% of 58489 is 2924.45. Invoice minus discount would be 55564.55. Where am I messing up? I would just like to know so that I am able to calculate my own with accuracy.

In my area at least, the only way you can get these numbers is to do a custom order. I have checked with all my dealerships in my area and no one can come anywhere near what I have been quoted. There are quite a few people that have ventured out to other states just to get a great deal on a vehicle. I understand about the dealer being out of state and not being able to get a loaner, but what happens if you buy a vehicle then move out of state. You still get to go to the local dealer and get your vehicle worked on. I am getting a signed sales offer sheet from the dealer before I agree to order.

Anyone know anything about Koon's dealership in VA? Good to do business with?
Yes, they are discussed a bit on the JLWrangler Forums pages. I bought an Acura from them back when I was in the service, always liked them.

Lots to digest here. First, no 3.5% off MSRP is not invoice. Maybe he is using that as a general rule of thumb, but It's not a set static percentage. It's dynamic and you have to factor in options as well. Not sure who, or where your looking but if they do order you one make sure they click the "Sold Order Protection" box, that's the only way to guarantee incentives and rebates that were active when you ordered. Gupton is straight shooting, they aren't going to trick you into thinking you're getting 5% off but in reality you're getting 1% it's not how they operate. Just ask them flat out what the Invoice total is on your build and they should tell you.

For my vehicle, invoice was $60,787 is $3,039 just as you said. So my invoice price is $57,748 (Full disclosure I actually got 6% off and the 1% kicker for Tread Lightly was given to me via check after I did the survey with all 10s). It's possible your dealership (or Gupton as I didn't check with them) isn't currently doing the special order pricing on the GCL. I can only speak for mine here in FL.

Your math would be correct for 5% invoice pricing on a stock 4x4 Summit that is $58,489 that had no options and you didn't factor in the Destination Fee on.

Anyone know anything about Koon's dealership in VA? Good to do business with?
I live in VA and bought my Jeep here. Fair Oaks Jeep kinda sucked, they left me hanging and made me play the waiting game and their sales people dont actually seem to know anything about the car. They didnt do any msrp increases but they did try to game me. I was salty.

Browns jeep in sterling is where i got my Jeep. They always see everyone immediately and you never have to wait to get your car into service. When your car is in service though a basic alignment takes 4 hours. Salesman was really nice and cool guy, lot was emptier than fair oaks and there was an adjusted market value of +2k on every single car. I went on some sales weekend where they removed it but maybe they just gamed me heh. I paid msrp.

Later I wish I had v8 so my friend helps me look and Koons is not only the only dealer that had one in stock, they responded faster than everyone and were even magically under msrp. They knew their cars and were nicer than any of the other dealers in my opinion. It felt like they want to get you a good car not just make money off you. I wish i had come here in the first place and definitely will purchase my next jeep at koons in the future.

Also its just crazy to me theres so many jeeps near me within a 25 mile radius heh.
