New Owner- GC Altitude L- Major Problems need some feedback

Hey all, I’ve had this Baltic GC-L Altitude for 3 weeks. Beautiful truck, but man this thing has some serious front end issues. It’s driving me crazy. The road noise is another issue it’s so loud in the cabin.

On colder days the noise is more prominent, it’s a rotational noise like a bad tire or a seized wheel bearing. (Wahwahwahwahwahwahwah) -that’s me illustrating the noise. The noise is constant but is most loud at 45mph. The truck also has a slight shake at highway speeds.
Have serviced scheduled for Thursday. Just want to know if anyone else has experienced this.
What a let down this truck is, coming from a GC trailhawk that was a pleasure to own. I regret trading it in.
Thanks in advance !

Unfortunately I’ve been having the same issue on my altitude. Incredibly annoying between 36-50mph most noticeable at 43mph, dealer drove it and doesn’t think anything is wrong… I plan on taking it to another dealer for a second opinion. I find it hard to believe the noise I hear is “normal”. Let me know what they say about yours.

Can you get a video of the noise?

If there is a shake while not braking then first guess is alignment. This might also be where the sound is coming from.

Could also be a bad lower control arm or something just messed up from the start. There is a big difference between a car being broken from the start vs breaking lots over your ownership. Hiccups like this at the start are usually no big deal as long as it's not constant throughout the ownership.

Wow, just what I think the dealer will tell me. For what it’s worth I just drove my buddies truck (exact same truck down to the msrp) and no noise at all. This is not a normal noise at all

Oh yeah it’s definitely not braking related because it’s constant. I will get a video of the noise later tonight. I even rotated the tires thinking maybe I have a shifted belt in a front tire and same exact noise / vibration

And yes, 36-50 mph is the absolute worst. I’be had bad luck with Bridgestone tires in the past on a Sierra denali. I went to the dealer 5x for a shake and turned our to be the Bridgestone Duelers

@BalticWL it definitely sounds like an axle/wheel alignment issue. I would take your car to different jeep dealership and have it checked out again

It sounds like the problems associated with bad wheel bearing or tires, e.g., cupping.
Since your GCL is new, it might be rated to tires.

Check this out.

I would inspect tires first then wheel alignment. Remember that the dealership is an independent shop, not owned by Jeep so actually they don't care about these issues since it can't be a profitable warranty claim. Some dealership are really great but some are really bad in terms of customer cares. You need to find a good one.

As other members said, it would be helpful to find a culprit if you can upload an Youtube video.

I am having issues with cabin noise in my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee WL - Limited. I believe it is wind noise from the windshield and not the tires. It is horrible! It sounds like static on the radio, but it's definitely the wind. I am about to seek the dealership troubleshooting, but not too sure if they will fix it correctly. Thought y'all might have some insight.

I don't have the noise described, but I have chronic alignment issues (vehicle pulls to the left very quickly above 45 mph). Vehicle has been realigned twice and I have been told and shown that vehicle is within spec for alignment, yet still have the left pull. Dealer now wants to order a part to address the issue, but no ETA on part availability to ship. Have just over 3K miles on a JGC L Overland and the alignment issue first appeared around 500 miles.

@kverk88 I just found this thread and am curious if you ever had the ‘pulling’ issues resolved.

I’ve now been to the dealership 4x to try and correct my Overland from continuously pulling left. They’ve done an alignment 5 times already and have finally opened a STAR case. I’m due back to the dealership tomorrow and wanted to know if you have any advice.

Mine had the same issue after I had it in for service. Its not an alignment issue, it’s an electric steering issue. It simply needs a recalibration of the electric steering. Should be an easy fix.

Try putting good green 'frog' painters tape or real gaffer tape around the entire windshield in 6" strips. Start in the area you think the noise is coming from, and keep adding tape until the entire perimeter is sealed, with the tape tightly secured/adhered everywhere. Then, you can find the location of the leak, and you can demonstrate it to the dealer, or give them the tape and tell them how to find it. Note the wind conditions when you're testing it (direction/speed).

That should get it solved.

It sounds like a bad or improperly seated wheel bearing, or possibly a CV axle problem. Maybe a suspension bushing or improperly assembled component. It's something mechanical, and cars of all makes have had similar problems, it's just a matter of chasing it down. I had to go through that in an older BMW. I finally just replaced every bushing and suspension component and the wheel bearings, as the miles were pretty high anyway. Now it drives like it came off the factory line, at 160k miles and 15 years old.

Take video of the problem. Take another identical model for a test drive (same drivetrain/engine/trim) and record that one on the same section of road to show the difference (ie its not the pavement, etc, all variables are the same)

No more 'they're all like that' arguments. Find the problem. It's not impossible. Take it to a different dealer. Open a 'Star' case.

When the techs see the video evidence, no one will have any room to argue, and they'll have to solve it. Unfortunately, in life, there's a lot of people who don't want to or don't know how to do their jobs, and you have to participate to get the results you want.

Thanks again for this. They opened a STAR case for me and I shared this with them, but they found a separate issue where the brake wasn’t fully releasing from the front left wheel, causing the vehicle to drift left. They just replaced the hose that carries the hydraulic fluid, which should have fixed it.

Nope - back to square one. Will keep this updated in case there eventually is a resolution that can help someone else.
