So I am scheduled to take my 2022 Summit Reserve to the dealer for a second time to fix a start /stop that does not work, the last time they fixed it lasted all of 1 day , it basically has not worked since we received it new on May of 2022, Jeep Cares can you give me a list of known problems that could cause this that I can present to the dealer so I can get this issue fixed once and for all, my 2017 Summit worked flawlessly, this one not so much.

We're sorry to hear you're running into some concerns here, jeepgirl2022. Sadly though, we are not trained technicians, so we can't really provide you an entire of list of known problems and would rather suggest that you allow the technicians at your dealership the opportunity to review. If you need any extra support during repairs, feel free to reach back out.

I can tell you this seems to be a common problem. I have two 2021 GCLs and both have had these feature work sporadically and then not at all. I think the secondary battery isn’t big enough. They fixed it twice in one of my GCLs and it seems to be working for now (about two months sunce it was fixed). My other one it wasn’t working for months and just the other day it started working again all by itself. I personally hate the feature and usually shut it off. The only thing that bothers me is it’s a feature so ot should work when you want it to. I won’t worry about it until I sell or trade it in. I have had two Dodge Durangos that had this feature and it never failed in them so I don’t know why it’s a problem for the GCLs.

Our stop start works about 1 month out of the year. I think it's just the conditions we drive in that cause it to not work. Either we have the heat on or the A/C on and the car doesn't do the stop start thing.

I have had multiple Jeeps over the years this has been a part of the package. I have found it it highly dependent on how I drive. When I drove to work every day, it
always worked. When I retired and the car sat in the garage for 2 or 3 days, it would stop working and sometimes not work for weeks. Same thing over many vehicles. I get a new Jeep every year as a retiree corporate lease person so probably have had more models than most here. If you do not drive a lot or it's a cold climate and you drive little, it just does not work. My experience.

When I had the second Durango I was retired and didn’t drive it everyday or even that far. Again that was rock solid. I really think they aren’t making batteries the same anymore.

Never experienced anything like that. Maybe you need to get out more.

Some of these vehicles have separate batteries for start/stop and some do not. I believe the GC has a separate battery while the plain Cherokee does not. Generally it would take a few weeks of driving very little for this to happen to me and more in the winter than summer. I drove almost 100 miles a day when I worked and drove to the Chrysler Tech Center every day and it never happened. Now I may only drive 20 miles a week (local stores and such) some days no driving for 3 days or so. I remember it not working on a GC and then after driving 40 miles, it started working again. I still think it has something to do with the vehicle computer thinking the battery needs to charge more. And yes Jake22, I should get out more. :) I remember a company that sold a device to plug into the ODB-II port to automatically push the disable button every time you started the car as some really hated this feature.

the Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve has an on off switch, my 2017 Summit start stop worked flawlessly, the 2022 can't be too hot can't be too cold, can't have the air on can't have the heat on, its almost useless in 90% of drive time, best thing they could do is delete it completely.

They all have an off switch, every Jeep I had had one, my current 2022 has a switch. The point is you have to push it every time you start the car. The OBD-II device automatically pushed the switch for you every time you started the vehicle so you did not have to. Some people just wanted it to be automatic and actually paid for such a device. Testing showed that it did actually save gas if the engine was stopped for more than 6 seconds.

Other car makers are also having battery issues, my son has a Subaru and there have been repeated battery issues with those. Looks like crap OEM batteries are the rule , not the exception .
