Intermittent Power Steering Unavailable

Last week, I was running kids to school and went back to attend a Halloween parade... when I got in to leave, I noticed a red steering wheel icon and the message - Power Steering Unavailable. Sure enough, for the duration of that drive cycle, I had no power steering; however, when I arrived at my next destination and power cycled the vehicle, the icon and message were gone.

Has anyone else had intermittent power steering failure? Vehicle had about 750 miles on it at the time.

Check and make sure all fuses are fully seated. If your handy you can check the PCM and pull the connector off. Known issue with the power steering pin having a connection issue. Easy fix.

Same here. Red light came on. Took it to the dealer and it had a stored code, no more light. They did nothing as usual. Terrible dealership. Lazy.

Yikes, if it comes back, I'll document and schedule an appointment! Thanks for the feedback!

i am experiencing the same in my new L Limited. I have been able to decipher it's happening only when the engine is cold (whether that plays a role in the actual issue, unknown). But it does explain why it comes back on when restarting the car after a short (or long) drive.

There is now a TSB that addresses this issue via software, which will hopefully correct it speedily.

When they did the airbag-recall on mine, they also did a second one in regards to power steering. I had no issues prior to that so I don't know if that is a fix.

My 2021 L Limited has been to the dealer 4x for this issue. Dealer now says there is nothing they can do. They have applied the fixes available to them by FCA. They advised pursuing lemon law. Vehicle can't be driven. 5800 miles.

This just happened to me, I’m currently on a road trip in Canada from Florida and the Power steering is unavailable. Hopefully it comes back soon because I don’t want to test a Jeep dealer in a country different from where I bought mine -__-

This just happened to my wife's car, right as she was leaving for work at 5 am. We tried restarting it and nothing worked and she had to end up taking my car. We had the recalls taken care of last Friday and had no issues prior. I'll update if I have anything else to share from the dealership.

Not an easy fix. Mine has come back 4x. Jeep engineering is working on a software patch but there is no ETA. There are multiple units with the same failure and a multitude of other quality control issues with the L.

I have had this issue 4x. It requires a software patch that FCA engineering has yet to develop. There is no ETA. Good luck!

When I started the Jeep to head to the dealership, the error was gone. I still went ahead dropped it off yesterday anyways. Later in the day, they told me that they checked over all of the connections, hardware, and etc and didn't find anything there. However they told me that there is service bulletin with a software fix for the car and had went on to apply it. I'm not sure if that is the same patch you mentioned though. I'm still hesitant if it's completely gone, and have warned my wife too.

Yes, it's been an ongoing issue. It appears to happen on cold morning starts. Dealer saying software update. Frustrating. Only 2500 miles. Has your issue been resolved?

Same issue here. Jeep has 3500 miles and they updated the software on Friday. The power steering light came back on tonight. (2 days later) They obviously don’t have a fix for this issue.
