Has quality improved on '22 and '23 models?

I was debating on buying a GCL limited 4x4 a year ago. I decided not to because of all the negative posts I read. I'm back to considering buying one again. Have the newer years ('22 and '23) improved or are they also seeing frequent issues that seemed common on the first year models?

People only post if they have issues not when things are great. There is probably significantly more people in the world with zero problems then with issues. Usually though it's good practice to stray away from first model year vehicles and get the second year. It's probably not going to get any better after the second year as all the manufacturing processes have been figured out.

I agree with you. However, there seemed to be a large amount of people with very serious issues. Coming from owning two toyota tacomas in a row that were flawless I want to have realistic expectations. I'm never a buy the extended warranty kind of guy because I usually research and buy based on this but with the GCL I'll be buying one if I do get one. It seems like if you're unlucky with these models you're severely unlucky.

I'm coming from a long history of upper end German cars, and my '21 was the worst car I've ever had. I'm waiting for my '23 replacement to arrive, because it's also the best car I could have for my purposes right now, and while I've read some people continuing to have some of the same issues on 22-23 cars I had, it seems to be fewer people. I assume there are many people with no issues at all. In my case, the electrical issues were so random and sporadic, I think I had a problem in the wiring harness, or some other root level issue that's nearly impossible to sort out.

But... if you're coming from Tacoma-land... good luck. You may find it's the best car you've ever owned, or you might wish you'd never even thought about buying one. I've always been willing to trade off having what I want for a little bit of ownership pain, though, and I have a great dealer who's only 3 miles away, whereas all the non-American brand dealers are 100-300 miles away. At that, the only other vehicles that offer everything you get in a loaded GC are Range Rovers.

My GCL Summit Reserve/Overland alternatives all seem like decontented penalty boxes in comparison (new Sequoia, Denali/Tahoe, Expedition, etc), so fingers crossed I get a good one this time. I sure as hell don't want to go through the buyback process again. I also don't want a full size vehicle, but I want most of the full size capability. With the Hemi, this does all the tricks. I'll be trading my Hemi in for a twin turbo when that becomes available.

What other vehicles are you contemplating?

I am coming from mostly owning higher trimmed out Subarus so not super comparable but my 22 limited has been largely impressive. Only real issues I can think of are issues connecting to carplay occasionally which are fixed with a radio reset and a few times my backup camera has frozen and the radio has reset itself to remedy that. All of my Subarus that have had carplay have all experienced the same issues with carplay so it was not unexpected when the Jeep had hiccups.

Hi voklskier4452,

If you need assistance with the Apple CarPlay feature, feel welcome to send our team a message and we'd be happy to search for any available resolutions.

We took delivery of our '22 GCL 4x4 Limited back in late January of '22. If I had read of the problems and complaints on this board and others prior to making the purchase, I would likely have looked at something other than a Jeep. But, I'm glad that I didn't do that. We have had zero problems with our GCL Limited and in fact, just returned yesterday from a 2500 mile road trip with no issues at all. From 80+mph runs for hours at a time across West Texas, through the Hill Country and on to Galveston and back to our home iin New Mexico, the car was a pleasure to drive. I by no means discount the problems other owners have had with their vehicles and their reports have made me aware of things I should look out for, but to date, we simply have seen none of those issues.

Honestly I'm not looking into anything else. If I do decide not to roll the dice with a GCL then I'll likely just stick with my Tacoma. I don't need a new vehicle. I just want one. And the jeeps caught my eye hard when they first came out. And I still really like them.

I'm getting my truck repainted very soon (it was massively keyed for parking in front of a neighbors house... all street parking no driveways. Gotta love city living). Once it's finished I'll see what the dealerships offer for it and go from there.

We have 22K miles on our 2021 Hemi Overland and have had zero issues expect for the occasional necessary hard infotainment reboot. It's been a great vehicle for us so far.

2022 TrailHawk WL 6 months old with 6k miles. Has potential but like most Chrysler products, it comes up short in reliability. My second one, swore I wouldn’t buy another after the first one that had problems from start to finish. I regret both purchases! New one has all kinds or rattles in the doors, dash and center console. Handling was horrible, figured it was alignment but couldn’t get multiple dealers to agree it was under warranty to even look at it. Finally got one to agree its warranty and to put it on a rack to check it. All 4 corners were off by a mile. They couldn’t believe it. After trying to align it for over an hour with multiple mechanics, they gave up and said they’d need the factory to get involved as they couldn’t get it to spec, ongoing. Uconnect works intermittently, even after updates. Dealer has no answers other than wait for more updates. V6 gets crap mileage, not even close to printed range, 15 city, 22 freeway, 17 combined. All kinds of clunking noise from suspension and drivetrain. Afraid to take it off road, tow or use it for anything I really want to do… I really want to love this $60k purchase but regret it, again! Hoping for a buy back so I can get something else, not another Chrysler product, ever! Don’t walk away, run…! The definition of insanity comes to mind…. Shame on me for giving them a second chance!

Hope is not a plan, and jeep certainly won’t swoop in to help you. You either put in the effort to service it, and if your time spent doing that exceeds your states lemon laws, you are eligible for additional recourse. Keep good records and don’t let the dealers state “miscellaneous” on the service reports. They need to be detailed. Skipping all of that isn’t possible. Buyback and cash out/walk away will be tough since your on #2.

Or you could trade or sell the 💩.

Maybe the WL quality this year is better than the wranglers? I consulted the magic 🎱 for 23’ model year results. Outlook not so good…
