I'm looking into warranties, and they vary greatly depending on the equipment. I haven't gotten actual quotes yet, but have been told my loaded Overland Hemi 4x4 will not be cheap, due to the high level of expensive equipment (air suspensions are probably expensive unto themselves).

I think the longest you can get is 8y and it's like $1200

8y is probably longest, but I imagine the price varies wildly between a 4x2 V6 Laredo and a V8 Summit reserve. That's why I'm saying the prices people are quoting are meaningless as comparisons, without knowing the trim level and equipment level (i.e. mine has all the tech and luxury packages in addition to the air suspension). When all those gee-gaws go south, it gets very expensive, and things like air suspensions are practically guaranteed to break once by 8y/100k.

If I could get an 8y/100k warranty on a loaded GC L, it would be the best bet I could ever make.

Hey guys, for those of you that have purchased a ‘21 GCL, have you purchased an extended warranty thru your dealer? This is the first brand new vehicle I’ve ever purchased and with all the electronics and tech in these newer vehicles I opted for the extended warranty. It’s also the first time I’ve purchased an extended warranty and I’m curious if I’m paying a fair price. We get 7 years/100k miles and comprehensive service that covers nearly everything on the vehicle with 0 deductible thru our dealer (if we bring it there) and ended up paying $3835.

Thoughts?
Depends how much you drive. I paid $4575, so $740 more than you, for a Mopar(not 3rd party) 7 year/unlimited miles bumper-to-bumper. It was sooo worth it, as I'll put 500k on the vehicle in 7 years. Still can't believe they offered it to me after I told them how much I drive. I think the dealership just figures they'll be able to charge Stelantis for all of the repairs, so more money for them.

again, why pay for 3 years 36K that are already paid for thru factory warranty and 60K drive train.. I absolutely want an extended warranty but I am waiting for the factory to expire than purchase, I will be getting the tire wheel and windshield protection at closing

The Mopar warranties start from the date of vehicle purchase (to include the overlap of original factory warranty). Waiting for the original to expire might increase the cost.

FYI, I just purchased mine from https://chryslerwarrantydirect.com/ and got the 8yr/85,000 miles MAXIMUM CARE for $1395 ($200 Deductible).

The price is all the same. Go look for yourself

I understand,,, but you are really paying for is a 5 year 49 though.. that using the 36 month, if you use the 60 month then its even less
I get it, and yes I would think at 35K miles and a year in to purchase an extended then would be more.. I am being goofy about this, but overlapping warranties seems useless and expensive, people I guess just throw it in the payment and move on.

I’m not sure I get your reasoning. I bought an 8/85000 warranty for $1200 with 3000 mile on the car. It is good until August 2029 or 85k. If I wait 3 years until 2024 and have 35k on the Jeep the same warranty will be about double the price. It will expire at 85k or august 29 . It doesn’t run 8 years from the purchase.

Yes its cheaper buying now when new but only makes sense if you really plan to keep the car for 8-10 years.

I purchased the extended warranty. Forget the actual details but believe it was 10yr 100k. First time buying an extended warranty. My big question in general: is it worth it to buy these? Anyone have first hand experience where they had to use? Was the experience as promised? Did they honor the commitments or give you the run around and hassle?

I'm a big anti warrant guy. But if you want one it needs to be a factory extended warranty like the Mopar one. These are easier for the dealership/mechanic to work with because the work gets approved up front and they just fix things like normal. Third party warranties require for someone to submit for reimbursement and you never know what you're going to get.

There are lots of expensive things that can go wrong and are not under warranty after 36 months even more expensive thing to break after 5 years .I’m not sure what “work through the manufacture at the beginning “ means. If it’s a Mopar warranty it works through Mopar from day one until the terms of the warranty are over. There is no overlapping. It’s called extended because it’s extends the warranty that’s included with the vehicle. Not because you are buying a second warranty that coincides with the factory one.

Extended warranties start the day you buy the vehicle not when you buy the warranty. Buy the car in 2021 and a 10y extended warranty in 2021 the warranty will expire 2031. Buy the car in 2021 but wait and buy the extended warranty (10y) in 2025, the extended warranty still expires in 2031 because the car is 10y old.

All of this nonsense is why I think they are dumb. Plus most people don't even keep their cars long enough for the extended warranty to matter.

The used market also has warranties but those are usually through the dealer not the manufacturer. So different story.

Now you got me thinking about extended warranty. I am thinking about 7 years 75,000 miles max care, plus wheel and tire coverage for 6 yrs, plus appearance package for 5 years (dings and dents).

This it he coverage I am thinking about:
-7 yrs / 75,000 miles max care, $100 deductable
-5 yrs unlimited dings and dents repair, $0 deductable
-6 year wheel tire repair (unlimited but up to 1500 per year), $0 deductable
=$2360 if paying with monthly pmts or $1995 if paying in full.

I am seriously thining about it. If you are like me and want the car to be in perfect condition, you will use wheels and dent repair for sure.

If you hit the curb, one wheel is $500 so that to me is worth it... Dents and Dings (appearance package) are definitely worth it because metal sheets on the grand cherokee are so thin, probably worse then any car I had so far and I had over 40. There will be some dings.

Just went with Tom Winkles with Mopar 7 year unlimted miles for 2675.00 with 200.00 deductible. Buy year 7 I will have 180k plus miles. I am not seeing how I can loose on this one?
I have a 4 Runner with 150k that has never had any issue whatsoever but with Jeep.....I am just not as confident.

Are the dents and dings and wheel/tire repair packages part of the FCA Max Care warranty? I'm looking at the 8/100k plan, because I KNOW between the air suspension and all the electrical stuff will have issues, on top of the rest of the car. If that includes dents, dings, tires and wheels... I'm definitely going to win that bet living in Wyoming 🙃

And if I sell, the new owner can transfer the remaining policy for $50 per FCA. So it has easy resale value as well.
