Cup holders hot when heat is on in backseat!

Anybody else having issues with their forward console cup holder getting ridiculously hot when the back seat has beat on? Seems like a line is disconnected or something. We have the Summit.

Yep, same. Probably have to disassemble the console and wrap the HVAC tubes in insulating foil (like sound deadening f type adhesive backed material) to stop it.

Not just the cup holders but if you put your phone on the charger it will overheat and go into safety mode
That qualifies as a bonified design defect. It seems like wrapping the HVAC ducting would solve it, though. No idea how you take all of that apart to get to it...

Folowup on this: Mine has been doing this (I noticed it day one, but thought it was just because the rear seat heat was cranked). Mine blows no air volume at all through the second row console vents. My console cubby shows 122 degrees F on the laser temp gun, and only 68 degrees at the vent outlets. They made a number of these without putting the HVAC together properly. When it's really cold (I'm in Wyoming, it's winter) the cabin also has weird cool air swirling around, and the defrost is totally ineffective unless you set it to 'max defrost' via the dash button, at which point it turns into a sweat-inducing blast furnace up front.

They're going to tear into mine finally next week (going into two months of ownership like this).

I think you're on to something. Maybe the hot air is swirling around inside the plastics instead of coming out the back. While you are in there you could do the armrest TSB also.

I am going through the same issue. Hot cup holder, and ridiculously foggy windows and windshield. I’m really disappointed with Stellantis. I have driven Jeep trucks all my life. 3 limited versions without issues and finally an overland L and that’s given more headaches than I could bare.

This is the temp in the bottom of my center console, which could double as a soup server. I'd rather it were refrigerated.

And this is the temp of the vent outlets behind the center console:The cabin had been set at 71 degrees and I had been driving over an hour and a half at this point.

This is the temp of the floor/lower seatback area, where the second row foot vents come out.

Clearly, the system is pumping 125+ degree heat, it's just blowing into the console, not connected to the vents. Should be an easy fix, but the dealer first told me they'd need a TSB to warrant tearing it apart (to satisfy Jeep corp), and then said they'd look at it when Jeep sent them a new head unit, but after seven weeks of ownership they still don't even have a ship date for the new radio, and in conjunction with me proving this problem, they're going to tackle it next week.

I also have a strange, more elusive situation with the defogging not working, with weird 'cold air' flowing around the cabin (front foot wells blow cold air), unless I push 'max defrost' button, at which case the system switches to 'blast furnace' mode through the windscreen area and you have to open the windows (even though it's 0 degrees outside) to stop sweating.

Such a theoretically great car, but absolutely horribly executed.

29884F65-D9C7-4EDB-B561-9E31A5A6389E.jpegAnd today, while putting my ski boots on in the back seat, I also discovered that the floor vent under the drivers seat wasn’t connected, either 🤦‍♂️🙄

Does Stellantis own IKEA, too? Unreal. And it’s just laying there loose.

Today my wife took the car for a three hour trip with four people in it, and she had to pull over and open the doors the car had gotten so hot. That's how bad this HVAC system is. I wasn't there to troubleshoot any of it, but I've never heard of middle aged adults having to stop a car and open all the doors because it was so hot inside... unreal.

It's looking at it from the back seat, with the front seat moved all the way forward to the limit of its travel.

The wide angle lens distorts things a bit, but the part with the foam surround should be slotted into the duct. The weird thing is there are no other attachment points for it, so the duct (which is sort of on a swivel attachment to the other big square black plastic part) is just laying there loose, not attached to anything else... which doesn't seem like anything someone with a degree in engineering would design. Who knows. It's at the dealer now getting a myriad of things worked on, so I'll know more in a few days.

I am dealing with the same issues. Purchased 2021 Overland L on 12/31/21. Was in the shop from 1/12/22- 2/10/22 with no fix. Brought it back in today and they replaced the entire center console and taped up a small air leak. Still no fix. I would love to hear if anyone has had success in fixing this.

That’s a bummer. I can’t imagine it’s just heat soak from the plastic ducting. To get the console that hot I would think there has to be some kind of problem with an air leak somewhere.

What did you learn when you got your L back from the dealer after your post above from January 26th?

The center console second row vent duct wasn't connected. But there has been no subsequent reduction in the high temps of the console cubby and cupholders. My HVAC system is still screwed up, though, for front passengers. There's got to be something wrong with the blend doors or something. It's been in the shop for a couple of weeks again, we'll see. I may be working out a replacement deal, though, and am heading to Hawaii for a couple of weeks, so I may never see the current car again if a replacement deal gets worked out while I'm gone.

I took my overland MY21 to the dealer to have the radio and amplifier replaced and asked while it’s apart up front to look into the center console being so hot that it melts drinks and makes cans uncomfortable to hold. Got it back after 2 days and they said it’s a common complaint, no resolution as it’s just a design quirk and not an issue. Thanks jeep, killin it (mostly me)…also replacing head unit and amp didn’t fix any electrical issues in the front end😮‍💨

On the flip side, I’ve noticed that now the cup holders, center console and charging pad are really cold with the AC blasting. It’s crazy everyone has the same problem and Jeep has not come up for a fix yet. During winter the charging pad overheats my phone. Not an issue this time of year but it will be back.

My various vents don't blow as much air volume as you'd expect from the amount of sound they make, either, but the dealer has taken apart my whole center console, and while they did find that the second row center vents were disconnected early on (there was almost no air coming out the second row console vents so it was obvious), they couldn't find anything else, and the cupholders and center console were still almost as hot after reconnecting the ducting. There's clearly some other leak, as even with the second row vents connected, the cupholders/charger/console still get just as hot. I can't believe Jeep hasn't solved this.

I've also noted that my AC blows hot for an oddly long amount of time a lot of times when I start the car for the first time on a hot day. It's like the system isn't starting the AC compressor for about 60 seconds. In any other car, you get a short blast of warm air due to the ducts being filled with warm air (from sitting) and the compressor taking a 5-10 seconds to charge the air, in this one I've even noticed it still being warm after a couple of minutes, which is weird.
