I posted this elsewhere but it also fits here so I will add to this thread. A few weeks ago my 21 GCL Limited with about 15000 miles on it started acting flakey. When I approached it with its key fob it started honking as if I was pressing the keyfob buttons even though I wasn’t. It did that with the doors open or closed. It didn’t matter. It did it several times. I thought the key fob might be bad so I tried carrying the secondary key fob and the same thing happened. I left it parked for the night and then it was used the next day w no issues whatsoever. The day after that it was totally dead and had to be towed to dealership. I was originally told they might not look at it fir 3 weeks to a month because they were buried w appts. They ended up getting to it that day and checked it all over and said just a dead battery, nothing was wrong with the truck. I asked if they were sure and they said yes we went through everything and it’s fine. Well two weeks later I go on vacation down south and the truck starts flaking out a few days before 4th of July. I bring it to the nearest dealership who confirmed the issue by walking up to the truck and away from it while holding the key job. They squeezed the truck in that day and said they found a bunch of error codes and they believe it’s a bad switch and a bad rear hatch handle. Not the motor for hatch, but the handle. They confirmed it definitely would have died in a matter of days. They couldn’t say how long it would have been before it would have died but said it definitely would have died soon. I didn’t want to get stranded on the way home so I left it there and had to get a rental to go through several states to get back home. The truck has to be shipped home when it’s done. I’m hoping they solve the mystery because I no longer trust taking the truck very far. Sad to have to say that about a truck I bought new and it’s not that old. It’s just proven itself to be unreliable the local dealership has proven that it’s service department is lackluster and basically incompetent. I also had a problem with a bad resonator that made the truck sound awful it sounded like a loud metal grinding sound. It took about 7 months for the part to come in and it to be fixed. That was after 2 snafus over a few months by the dealer saying the part was in when it apparently wasn’t. The third row seat also had gotten stuck in the up position and needed a new release handle to fix that problem. I had also brought it in two previous times for the auto start feature not working. Both times I was told the second battery just needed to be recharged. I asked why wasn’t it replaced the second time around being it’s the second time it failed. I was told that was protocol. I pretty much no longer believe what the local dealer says. I was impressed with the dealership I had to go to while on vacation though. They took interior panels off and were tracing wires and checking connections. They did this the same day I brought it in even though it was right before the holiday and they were short staffed. I actually wish they were my local dealer.
I was aware that there might be some issues with a new model year but it has become very frustrating when dealing with an incompetent dealership. I believe this battery issue should have been solved the first time I brought it in, instead of being told we checked it over everything is fine, there is nothing wrong with it that would have caused your battery to die. When the truck runs good and functions properly I love it. It rides great, and looks awesome. I love the features. I just wish it was reliable and trouble free. Like I said I would even forgive some hiccups but I expect a dealership to be able to solve problems not ignore them or be unable to fix them. It also seems I am getting constant recall notices even though it’s been at the dealership a few times lately between the resonator issue, regular service and the battery issue. I’m getting used to the dealer saying well there is a recall but the parts aren’t available. That’s been frustrating as well.
