Bass-like rumble from speakers at idle / park

I can confirm this fix works. I only covered the microphone over the third row. I used felt tape. Here is a picture. Thank you JTaylor.View attachment 1476
When you do this you realize you're making it so the active noise cancelling doesn't work, right? Which is fine but making sure you're ok with that.

I have the same noise in my overland but it's not bothersome I guess.

Good question... I only covered the mic over the 3rd row. To your credit I didn't think to cover the mic over the middle seats. Conventional wisdom was to cover the mic nearest the problem speaker. And for me - and it appears for you - to worked! Thanks for the feedback. More ammo when I finally take my GCL in for its first oil change. Then I'll have them look at the problem to see if they have a fix from the factory. Keep me posted when you do take your GCL in to the dealer - I'll do the same. Thanks again for the note. By the way, nice tape job!

happened today for first time. Oddly enough, the garage door opener didn’t work today and the mileage on the instrument cluster was flashing. This stuff reminds me of all the strange electrical gremlins my last BMW had.

The first year the RAM 1500 came out with the 10" display, I bought one. Like you, all kinds of gremlins. One issue, the dash would go all static - like a TV set when there's no broadcast. They replaced everything. For the balance of the 4 years I owned the vehicle - no other problems. I get why anyone who suffers a problem like yours gets really bummed. Vehicles today are packed with microprocessors, video cards, etc. So when I buy such a vehicle. I hope to not have any problems - but I also expect them. Not sure if you have a 21 model year or 22. But when we buy the first model of a major redesign, we're open to problems. Hope yours get fixed.

There are several other microphones in the car besides the third row microphone. The noise has been unbearable in my SR. So far I haven't noticed any additional road noise due to covering the third row microphone. I'll see how an extended interstate trip goes to see if this has noticeably hampered the workings of the noise cancellation system. Until there is a factory fix this appears to be my best option to get rid of the rumble at low speeds while not compromising the amazing driving experience on the highway.

Truly sorry to hear your response. I consider myself lucky. Have you tried blocking all the microphones in your GCL?

It worked fine just blocking the third row microphone. I was responding to the other person who suggested we are tampering with the noise cancellation system that there are still several other microphones for the noise cancellation system to use. I'm happy with the fix so far. Just waiting for a permanent factory fix now. Thanks.

Should you cover the rear microphone by the rear hatch door only or the microphone above the middle row seats too?
I confer with GretnaHusker - just cover the rear mic. Night and day. I truly was bummed about this sound (only when the engine revs at 1000 rpms), through other members in this forum I learned it was the result of the noise activation system. Thought if I prevent the mic from listening - it would stop the feed back to the rear speaker -- and the hunch worked.

Has anyone tried just disconnecting the subwoofer? I know that goes against having the nice sound system but I tried covering the 3rd row mic and it doesn’t stop the problem. If I cover the 2nd row mic it just gets worse, so frustrating.

Just so we're comparing our vehicles "apples-to-apples": I used white duct tape (to better match my gray interior), about 1" square and covered the small mic located in the rear above the 3rd row seats. That's it - just the one mic. I write this because it you use another medium, the sound could penetrate it and either not work or make things worse. As I have noted earlier in this thread, once I take my vehicle in for the first oil change (next month) I was going to bring it to the dealer's attention. Once, I do this, and hopefully get the dealer feedback - or better yet, get it repaired - I plan to report back to this community. Thoughts?

I am at the dealer now for the Y79 recall update. I mentioned to the SA the rumble noise issue and asked him to check if there is any updates for the Active noise cancellation module. Will report back once I get the car back and see what they say.

Just finished at the dealer, they said they don't know anything about any Active Noise Cancellation module updates. They did an update to the Telematics box and said it may fix the issue.

Just got back from dealer for this issue and many more. Said they were told there may be a fix coming out in January. I’ll believe that when I see it. They also told me there was nothing wrong with the emergency braking system even though they said there was no way to test it. So how do they know there is no issue.

I'm not sure if anyone still cares about this thread. But I have an update: I finally took my vehicle in for its first oil change and notified the dealer about this problem. In case you don't care to read earlier threads...
When the GCL hits 1000 RPMs I hear a loud bass from the rear speaker. I figured it might be a feedback problem (others have tipped me to this) and I put a piece of tap over the rear mic (located by the rear hatch) and it took care of the problem. The dealer removed the tape and was able to replicate the problem. They acknowledge the problem and forwarded it to Jeep. I am waiting for their reply. They did say Jeep is aware of it and are working on a software fix. So I'm waiting. My update...

Appreciate your follow through on this. Patiently waiting for a fix from Jeep. Hopefully they don't come out with a bulletin that says to put tape over the 3rd row microphone. HAHAHA

I thought the recall was for the rearview camera images that may not appear on the screens or they have another one?
Yeah that's the one I mean. I think it was just that usually it's parked in my heated garage and having it outside at the dealership the engine just ran differently and I started to pick up the rumble more. I put tape over the 3rd row mic and I haven't noticed it since.

Three months and Jeep hasn't tried replacing any modules on this car to fix it? I mean, there has to be a defective module in the mix. Not all of them do it, so find the defect and start the effort by replacing parts until you find the problem? Duct tape and bailing wire aren't supposed to be part of the repair solution on any car, much less at this price point. Jeez.

Then again, I'm sitting here with the same defective nonfunctioning head unit after two months, with no parts release ETA from my dealer, either, and others are being told April. What a horrible company... and meanwhile new cars keep rolling off the line.
