Auto Stop/Start

So I’m not sure why my 22 WL Auto Start/Stop is not working. Have no faults or lights on besides it saying “Stop/Start Not Ready”. I really don’t care but it’s my wife’s and she is asking me, don’t want to take it to the dealer for no reason. Have 5,800 miles on it and absolutely love it and have zero issues besides this. Again I could care less, didn’t buy it for the MPG’s. I have been though the owners manual and see al the reasons why it won’t work but not really comply. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Could careless? Or couldn't careless?

either way there are several factors that result in auto start/stop working. The biggest are of you have the A/C going or heat and the inside of the vehicle isn't at the correct temperature.

The other major one is if you don't drive on the highway enough it won't fully charge the secondary battery. This will prevent the system from working because if it shuts off it can't start backup.

jlwo211, Recently had my 2022 summit reserve in for the same issue, they first thought it was a battery related issue, turns out they just had to reset something in the system, I can say that it has more conditions that have to be met than my 2017 Summit, if you have not read the owner's manual it lists several things that also keep it from working, I also noticed if the steering wheel is turned when the brakes are applied it doesn't work.

had this issue with my SR. Battery for start stop will shut the system down below 60 or 70% charge they said. Mine was around 40. Working now that they charged the battery

I had to take my SR into service 4 times before I pointed them in the right direction after doing my own research. I too, was told I was not driving enough but that was not the cause. The batteries are known to fail but the issue was that the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor)was not properly calibrated. It takes a trip to the dealer to disconnect the sensor overnight and recalibrate. Mine has worked since this fix. There is a Star Case on this issue and additional information elsewhere on this site. I printed the information, brought it to the dealership and it was fixed. Good luck.

Do you mind forwarding me that information, if you still have it handy? The dealer has replaced my intelligent battery sensor (I think that was it), but the feature has never worked consistently. It typically works for a day or two after they reset the system, and then stops working again. The dealer said they are unable to fix it at this point. They opened a STAR case, but Jeep won't respond to them. Not sure what else I can do at this point.

I understand that some people hate this feature, but it's actually a very important feature for me.

Are you sure it's not just your heat or AC being on that is preventing the start/stop from working? Ours works for about 1month out of the year just because of temperature and how we use the heat/ac.

I'm positive. I understand that there are several parameters which will disable the feature, but this issue has persisted even when those parameters are eliminated.

are you bragging? You know there is a complete cheat for Wranglers just to turn it off permanently. It is a hideous EPA intusuive function.

Our 21 GCL Altitude has the same issue. No warning lights, etc but the start/stop is not working. Funny thing is the start/stop in my 21 Wrangler works perfectly as it should and it is driven less than the GCL. Now wondering if it is the battery sensor?

My start/stop has not worked since the purchased of the vehicle in December 2021. I sort of do not need it as I hate how the engine stops and re starts; and I feel it drains the life of the alternator, starter, batteries, and ect,. Plus, it kills the HVAC on my wife Chrysler Pacifica. I did not buy a V6 for economy. But on the flip note it is part of the buy package, and it should work. I say that because you have the option to remove the feature at a push of a button.

For those who haven't addressed the stop/start not working, Beware. Mine didn't work for about 4 months. Even after driving about 2 1/2 hours @ 70 mph, which surely should have been enough to charge the batteries. I took it to my dealer to check it out. The dealer was told that there have been bad batches of batteries within the pipeline. They were told to replace both batteries. As a result, the start/stop function works as designed.

So, even though you may not care about the function not working, it should, and may be caused by defective batteries that may bite you in the ass in the future.

I can’t find the information any longer but it is a design flaw. Mine ended up failing again after the post and long story short, i had the car declared a lemon. I ended up ordering a ‘23 GCL SR Hemi that Jeep paid for under the Lemon Law.

I will address this fault on my next dealer visit for sure.

My stop/start stopped working over a month ago. I was about ready to make a dealer appointment to have the batteries checked so that I didn't end up stranded one day. But today the stop/start started working again on its own. Will still have them check it come inspection time this year.
