Auto Start does not work when stopped at a light

I have been having issues with my Auto Stop / Start on my 21 GCL Altitude. 6K Miles now. For the last week, the jeep fails to start with the auto stop/start feature when stopping for traffic or traffic lights. When this happens, the gear automatically shifts to "P" and I have to start the car manually. The problem is, sometimes it does not start immediately. When I push the start button, it doesn't even crank. Sounds like a completely dead battery. What's worse is that this does not happen all the time so there is no way to test it good. This morning, I was stopped at a traffic light and it died when I took my foot off the brake pedal. I had my hazards on since I was the first car at the light and all the cars behind me were going around me. The traffic light cycled maybe (5) times before I was finally able to get it started.

Anyone has experienced this?

Wow, that's terrible. You need to get her in for service. I can't wait until someone releases an override device for the horrible auto S/S.

I turn mine off when I think of it. But with these gas prices I've left it on more than I'd like. But that being said, not starting when people are behind you! Yikes

yes auto start stop is acting up. It almost never kicks in if AC is not on which is terrible. Jeep definitely need to fine tune this.

I currently have a similar problem with my summit reserve, but my had been in the shop for almost a month now. The German jeep dealership has no idea what the problem is and American jeep isn't helping them to well. The German mechanic said the amps voltage is to high and that it's killing my battery in 32 hours.
I turn it in to get my start/stop working and uconnect update.

Take a video of it the next time it happens. Show the mileage on the odometer, the shifter in park, and you pressing the button and it not starting. That will at least prove to STAR techs (who will likely have to be involved) that the problem is real. It's also legal documentation should you need a buyback, and both your attorney and the buyback department will want to verify the issue. Hopefully they can figure it out and fix it, but problems of sporadic nature that are also a serious safety issue should be well-documented if possible.

The stop/start works off a secondary battery under the passenger seat, FYI. The battery drain on the main battery is possibly unrelated, fwiw.

Nothing that I know of. My V8 doesn't have the system at all, though, so my knowledge is cursory, from reading about it in passing on here. I'd like to use the space for an auxiliary house battery, though.

The German jeep dealership does recommend cars as lemons if they can't fix the problem. I just hate that overseas I will have to wait about eight months to have another made. I have had problems with military auto source as of lately. I had received my car with missing center caps, missing carpet, wrong color, and non functional start/stop. 🤦 I am going to have to get a lawyer. Even if I wanted to get the same car now, the price difference is insane. Pretty much $70,000

If you're just trying to get a new one, you can get it approved for buyback without a lawyer as long as you meet the criteria, which might be determined by where you purchased the car (i.e. where the dealer you bought it from is located - typically). I have no idea though, what that all looks like if you bought it from a German dealer, or what German lemon laws are like.

If you're military, you might have a better avenue, too, I also don't know if there's any special programs re American soldiers ordering for foreign service use, etc.

In the US, if it's approved for a buyback and you want a replacement, they generally offer you a like kind replacement at no cost, regardless of price hikes, etc. Sorry I can't tell you much more with your more unique situation. Also, in the US, the manufacturers have to pay your legal fees. Not sure about Germany.

Also, in the US, generally they will build your replacement as a 'priority build' so you don't wait very long (a month, depending on how things are going re covid supply chain problems).

I read that it's the rear trunk latch. I have Jeep, Stellantis, Military Auto Source, and Kummich Autohaus, all working to solve the problem. I hope that this mystery problem gets solved.

It took two and a half months to find what the problem was. It was 150amp safety switch and my car now stays on and start stop works really great. It's nicer than the 8 car rentals that I have had over the last few months.

It's kind of shocking they couldn't figure that out sooner. It's basically the single thing that controls the power supply, and given the whole problem is 'no power', you'd think that would be one of the first things to test/swap. Glad to hear you have a functioning car now, though.

I had this issue today for the first time. limited with 12k miles.

Was 7 min into a drive and pulled up to a light.just prior to that during the drive I got a dash warning saying “problem with e brake- get service” or something to that effect but then the error went away. Once I pulled up to a light the auto start/stop engaged but it was different this time and killed the engine and gave a beeping warning and engaged the brake.

I tried to hit the ignition but nothing. I had to move the shifter from drive to park and then ignition worked, I did this two more times then did the auto start/stop cancel button and after that no issue. I then turned auto start/stop back on and it now worked as normal.

That’s it.

Had this issue today. Started car after work and immediately noticed most of the settings had reset. Temp in celsius, clocks in military time, all safety features switched back to defaults. About 10 minutes into drive came to a light and stopped. Auto stop/start engaged and shut off engine. Warning message immediately flashed on dash, car went into Park automatically and engaged the parking brake. I hit the button to turn it off, then pressed the brake pedal and started the car up again. Released the parking brake and was able to shift to Drive and make it the rest of the way home. The stop/start warning light was on the dash screen the rest of the way home until I turned the ignition off and on again to power cycle.

Have an appointment in 2 days to have my radio replaced since I lost ALL audio in the car a couple weeks ago including navigation and carplay. Just added this stop/start thing to the list of issues for the dealer.

Radio replaced and working correctly. Also had the hood sensor replaced since they saw a code for it in the system. Three days later, my battery is dead and will not start. Had to jump it and got dozens of errors such as "Service Stop/Start System" and "Service Air Suspension". It's currently sitting at the dealer while they try and figure it out. Anyone have those service bulletin numbers or information for this battery drain issue? My service dept seems to be at a loss.
