10.1” Screen

Does anyone know if the 10.1” screen is plug and play? I currently have the 8.4” and found a 10.1” that’s is from a wrecked car that still works and am exploring my options for install. Any help would be great even from @JeepCares

I’m not sure.

I did something similar in my previous Explorer. I had to get my VIN programmed into the radio from the wrecked vehicle so that it would work in my car. Once it was programmed, it worked great.

Good luck!

Oh no, I know how useless @JeepCares is. They’ve been the worst help with all the issues we’ve had with ours. We’ve been in the dealership 3 separate times since buying the car in September and our high beams still don’t work. Jeep cares is absolutely worthless
Only three times? Bless your heart, haha. You’ve still got a long ways to go. I’m in for my 7th time since August for the same issues and finally getting someone to believe me and getting them fixed. Sarge probably has me beat. (Really just to justify the point that Jeep *doesn’t* care.) I think that the only reason I’ve gotten anywhere this time is that my boss is a friend of the owner of a dealership.

Hi Texas93,
Unfortunately, you cannot simply swap out your Uconnect head-unit for a larger display or added capabilities. This is because each unit is built to a certain specification and your vehicles were manufactured to support those given features and functions. Some features that you're hoping to acquire from a larger head-unit may require additional equipment/more complex firmware that your vehicle was not originally built to support.

If you're currently experiencing concerns with your Uconnect system and this is why you're looking into alternative options, please send us a private message! We'd be happy to look into those concerns so we can help turn your experience around.

I’m just curious, why would I not be able to purchase a larger screen and get it installed? What would be prohibiting me from simply plugging the screen in and having it do what it does now jut on a larger screen? This makes about as much sense as selling a $46,000 car with no fog lights. Will I ever have the option to add fog lights to my car?

Its not just as simple as it was in the olden days. Everything is controlled by the BCM. The GCL has a new computer architecture system that has not been "broken" yet. Anything you add to the truck would need to be "enabled" and possibly other components added. This is done in older Chrysler products with a program/app like AlfaOBD, or Jscan. I have a 2021 Durango SRT and was able to add power folding outside mirrors to it, (which were never offered as an option from the factory). It took new mirrors from a GCL, a new mirror/window switch/ new control modules in each door, and then programming with AlfaOBD. I'm sure in the near future there will be a bypass app/program to do this to the newer GCL's

They will be a way in the future once the developers of the programs mentioned above figure out how to interface with the body control module. The only think preventing it now is jeeps willingness to allow it. We just gotta wait.
