Recall Date September 21, 2021, recall to update the radio software.

Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard ("FMVSS") No. 111 S6.2.6 requires that the rear visibility system default to the rearview image being visible, and meet the requirements of FMVSS No. 111 S6.2.1 (field of view) and S6.2.2 (image size) at the beginning of each backing event, regardless of any modifications to the field of view that the driver had previously selected. Suspect vehicles may not display the rear view image during a backing event. The vehicle operator will notice that the rearview image is not displayed if attempting to reference the image while backing. If this warning is not heeded, backing without verifying it is safe to do so could lead to an increased risk of injury to people outside the vehicle.
Repair Description

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to update the radio software.

Hello everyone,

We're doing our best to keep you all informed. Stellantis just issued a Safety Recall Y67: 2021 WL Radio Software Update! This was issued as a Safety Recall since it addresses back-up camera concerns, amongst other things. If you'd like a more immediate update, you can absolutely go to the dealership to have this software update completed. I'd be more than happy to get additional support arranged alongside your dealer visit, to ensure that you're properly taken care of and your time is valued. However, you can also wait for a FOTA (firmware-over-the-air) campaign in a few weeks. This software update aims to address the following:
  • Carplay/Android Auto Inoperable
  • Language in Italian
  • Resets
  • Bluetooth Disconnects
  • Blank Screen/Backup Camera
  • Slow to Respond/Lockup
  • Radio inoperative

If anyone like assistance alongside their dealer visits, please don't hesitate to let us know via private messages!

Thanks,

Courtney

Thanks! Will this bring back Off Road pages which spontaneously disappeared today? Why is Jeep removing all the apps that worked? Market gone now Off Road pages!?

This is excellent news. All of the most common problems I've seen on this forum seem to be addressed with this update. Now I just need to wait patiently for my L to arrive.

Besides activating in the Uconnect, is there anything else that’s needed for an OTA update? (Such as an activated 4G LTE connection or something?)

Or is this automatic?

I belive you need to be connected to Wi-Fi to download OTA updates.

I'm pretty sure Jeep can push OTA updates through the cell connection automatically. I dont think WiFi needs to be enabled. They did this a few years back and caused the system to go into a continuous rebooting cycle...

Correct. There were updates to both my 15, and 19 Grand Cherokee‘a, and neither required a WiFi connection. I did however have to shut the vehicle off, and leave it off for 45 minutes.

Hi everyone,

We came across this thread and we wanted to offer our knowledge! Uconnect sends Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) updates to vehicles equipped with built-in cellular modem to add new features or fix software bugs. FOTAs are sent regionally and are dependent on the vehicle being within range of a U.S. or Canadian cellular network. However, your preferred dealer is capable of performing a manual update as well.

After FOTA Update Completes:
Firstly, it's important to know that you may have to re-pair your phones, reset your radio station presets, or delete & re-pair your Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connection once your update has completed. You may also notice that your connected services and apps work intermittently over the 24 hour period, following your update completion. This is because it takes longer for the more technologically advanced radios to fully update and sync every part of the radio. To break the process down a little more, please see below --
  • Deep Sleep Mode
    • We recommend customers wait about 40 minutes with their vehicle OFF (and with key fobs away from vehicle). This allows the radio to enter a "deep sleep" mode which mitigates the chances of any interruptions during the FOTA download process.
  • App-Over-The-Air (AOTA)
    • AOTA will trigger, which refreshes internal radio apps. As your radio syncs with the cloud during this AOTA update time, your connected services and apps will work intermittently, and may take up to 24 hours to return to full functionality. Some of these services include your WiFi hotspot, remote demands through the Uconnect App, etc.
You may experience HVAC/Climate Control/Temperature settings concerns, but don’t worry! HVAC takes at least 2 ignition cycles to re-learn the configuration. However, we've also seen that an overnight "deep sleep" can correct these types of concerns, as well. Since we want the best outcome for your update, we recommend that you schedule your FOTA for the evening when you're less likely to be utilizing your vehicle and it's connected services.

@WR21GCL , we can certainly look into those Off Road concerns if you would like to follow up privately. As for everyone else that has questions or would like assistance alongside their dealer visits to get the latest software update performed, please send our team a private message!

Thanks,

Courtney

Hello everyone, short update about this recall. I’m in Canada, Ontario, Greater Toronto Area and got an appointment for software update today. However they were not able to execute the update claiming that 2 part of the files are still not available from Chrysler (??) and suggested to do it later during oil change. Did anyone experience the same or it’s just incompetent folks at my Dealership?

Can anyone confirm that this update fixes the no cellular connection/assist/sos button issues some are having?
