Anyone have a real front skid plate?

Ordered the remaining skids from the off-road group (except #2) so we’ll see how it goes in a couple weeks.

I was happy to see you could actually get the parts so I ordered all the skids as well. People should note that the skid for the front is different for the V8 and V6 and way more expensive for whatever unknown reason. The other skids may be different as well but I didn't look too closely.

I got all the skids and everything seems to be correct except I can't figure out number 1 in the illustration. I thought it would end up being a tranny skid since it has two cut outs that look like they would be for a drain plug but it doesn't seem to fit anywhere. Any thoughts on where this would install?

Also, for anyone adding these after the fact, the heat shielding will have to be modified/cut for the transfer case skid to fit (at least on the V8). The heat shield is also in the way of the battery tub and fuse box but I'm pretty sure I can slip the skids underneath after loosening them.

Did you install the skid plates ? I will order some of these. Which part do you recommend?

I did install all the factory skid plates and they are actually quite beefy. They look and feel like they are 3/16” but I didn’t measure.

However, I have since found a company called ASFIR 4x4 that is making 1/4” aluminum skids for the Grand Cherokee L at a good price. I’d get their gas tank skids, tc skid (v6 only it appears), engine skid, and tranny skid. The other skids I would still get from mopar.

Keep in mind that ASFIRs tranny skid bolts to a “brace” currently on your jeep. I don’t love that design if its gonna see any rocks because that brace isn’t made to be a skid plate or take a beating and is quite thin. I’m going to drill two holes in the mopar tranny skid that I bought and mount the ASFIR tranny skid to that since the mopar tranny skid replaced that brace. The mopar transmission skid is a joke and provides little coverage.

Im not crazy about that lip btwn metal and plastic. The way we wheel there will be brush/debris caught in there until it eventually separates the metal from plastic just enough to catch a root or something else. I think OEM front is a cleaner fit

Does this block where the oil filter would come off?
Kinda looks that way. I like the mopar skid but am a bit disappointed it didn’t come with a metal cover for the drain plug. It has a giant cut out and two holes like there should be one. Probably just have to make my own I guess.

I also want to put the skid plates to my GC L summit but cannot do at home. I live in Bay Area California. Does anyone know if dealers can fit it for me or any other Auto Shop in here?

Hey, I am from the Bay too! I live right next to Shaffer's Offroad & Performance in Union City and I talked to them earlier this year and they said they can do the installation. Also Beep's in Hayward said they can do the installation too. Right now I am just waiting for a better aftermarket ones to pull the trigger.

Btw, here's my rig. if you see me around don't forget to honk 😂. Picture from yesterday's overlanding trip to the Eastern Sierra.

The picture is awesome!
Thanks for this information. Please reply in this thread if you find any good aftermarket ones. By any chance did you discuss with them how much the Jeep skid plates costs? with installation?
