Forward Collision Warning

I purchased the GCL Limited in November. It has 2976 miles on it. Forward collision warning is activated, but its does not work. Has anyone else noticed it?

I have only seen it work once. I was doing like 50 mph when someone took a turn in front of me. Was a pretty close call. Heard a beep and a warning on the digital cluster showed up, didn't have time to clearly see it though.

Be aware of the automatic assisted emergency braking can be sudden and potentially cause u to be rear ended as it hard brakes. Turned mine off after someone almost hit me at red light 🚦weird situation , it will only beep now 👍it's a big shift for some especially if never had thar feature

I am older so I rely on it. Furthermore a rear end does that make me liable. It was just something I got used to on my previous vehicle. Has anyone been able to get their for collision-warning to work?

The settings for the warning can be changed near and far to prevent the situation.

Just drive toward another person or their property without controlling your car and see if it warns you to brake or maybe applies the brakes. Or maybe consult your owner's manual.

Yessir it was set to far and made an abrupt stop as the cars were beginning to take off and I was approaching them at light. It was a bit much braking, obviously wouldn't of been liable probably but still a terrible situation. That being said it has helped me once too when cars in front had slowed to avoid someone pulling off road at weird time and I failed to notice as was looking at a screen momentarily.beeped and helped me stop quicker, Def gotta keep eyes peeled with it off

Mine still does not work. I tried forcing a situation with the help of a friend and I cannot make the system engage and brake or chime. I just picked my GCL up from the dealer after having that situation and a couple of recalls addressed and they say they ran diagnostics on the advanced braking system and came up with no issues and supposedly had a test they ran in their shop and it worked. But I get back out into the real world today and the system still is not engaging for me. I had a 2021 WK2 earlier this year and that vehicle's system worked flawlessly, almost annoyingly at times, but I liked that I knew it was working.

Too many idiots tailgating all the time. I would love to see those assholes getting tickets.

That is exactly how I felt about my old vehicle. I am going to harass the dealer a out it tomorrow.

Every garbage day when I come home from work, I test the forward collision warning system on the empty garbage can. Every week, it does not work. Today, I actually hit it because i forgot that the drive was so icy. I don’t believe it works in my car.

So here is my latest on this... I actually had to go without my GCL for 2 weeks because... for reasons unknown... my front drive shaft separated from the axle. Over that two weeks, I was given a 2021 Jeep Renegade as a loaner to drive. The Renegade has a very similar, if not same, radar sensor behind the front bumper with a similar squared-off section at the center of the bumper. While driving the Renegade, the Advanced Braking System engaged for me TWICE due to one vehicle making a sudden turn in front of me in an intersection, and another time it got a little angry about an oncoming car that got into the center lane on the highway and it was hugging the line enough that the system felt concerned it was coming into my lane - but it engaged. And then something I noticed while driving the Renegade... We had a snowfall hit and while I was in a store, the snow piled up on the front bumper and blocked the sensor. The car recognized that the sensor was blocked by the snow and it gave me a warning on the dash indicating that the sensor was blocked and was being disabled until the blockage was cleared. I cleared the snow and the sensor reengaged. So I get my GCL back from the drive shaft replacement and I tell my service advisor about the actions of the sensor in the Renegade and I said I was going to try a test by creating a blockage of the sensor to see if it would give me the disengagement message on the dash. I first tried taping a thick cardboard box flap on the bumper in front of the sensor. I did not get the blocked sensor error message. I tried it again when I got home by taping a balled-up shop rag - much thicker than the cardboard - to the bumper in front of the sensor and still no error message or disengagement of the system. I called my service advisor back and told him about this test not working. He claims he was calling it into STAR. I don't know that I am confident anything is actually happening.

Could anyone else try this test - blocking your sensor in some way, whether your Advanced Braking System works or not - to see if you get an error message disengaging the system after you start the car and drive it a few hundred feet? I am curious to see if this works for ANYONE. I am convinced either the radar sensor is non-functional OR there is a software issue in our systems that gives false readings that the system is operational when they run a diagnostic and it isn't actually working as it should. This is a pretty important safety feature to me and I think it is utterly ridiculous that this isn't working as it should and gets shrugged off otherwise.

I am sure it does not work 100% on my car as you described. It went OFF couple times when I was so close to the car in front of me even with the settings set to "FAR".

For what it's worth, I don't think the GCL Limited and below trims have the full collision system. For example, the intersection collision avoidance appears to be on upper trim levels. MY21 had a lot of deletes on different trim levels as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some vehicles without these systems included.

For a radar sensor you can't block it with tape and paper since the radio waves will just pass right through -- maybe aluminium foil or something to create a faraday effect. Snow makes sense in the situation described by BerettaBri since radio waves cannot penetrate water. Overall the goal in this thread seems to be to figure out how to test the system to figure out if and how it works, and I don't think there is a way to do this safely. These vehicles are designed to use the input of multiple sensors simultaneously to detect their surroundings and determine the actions for each situation, if any. It's near impossible to figure out what parameters you will need to have to trigger these systems since we have no idea how the code is written

I know I don't have the intersection collision avoidance, but the advanced brake system is actually advertised as a standard safety feature on all trims. It should trigger if I were to come up on stopped traffic too fast without braking or if traffic in front of me were to suddenly stop, for example. The WK2 Limited that I had and a 2015 Durango both did it flawlessly, as did this little Renegade Latitude I was driving. The dealer has said as much as this is a function that should work in these situations, but claim the system works properly according to diagnostics.

Good info on the radar pass-through of a solid object vs water... I'll see if I can strap a fish tank to the front bumper to block the signal. LOL. I could perhaps make a water barrier with a ice bag used for injuries. I am determined to beat this and get this system working as it should.

Try the aluminum foil first. It's probably sufficient. ;)
