Jeep Grand Cherokee L > Battery Discharge Issue

Check the jeep.com website and select Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer link; the interior photos show the front passenger uConnect screen above the glove compartment.
This forum and this thread are about Grand Cherokee L. My question was with this context already established. When @Callander says his/her GCL is missing the rear seat entertainment and passenger side screen, what exactly is "passenger side screen" referring to? As far as I know there is no option to have a wagoneer type passenger side screen in GCL.

You are wrong---@redriderbob posted earlier that this option would be made available on GCL. I do not remember which trim or time frame, but @redriderbob is seldom wrong.

This post is literally what I was looking for. Stepped out to drive my Summit Reserve today and completely dead, the computer went through a panic a couple times before becoming completely drained to where no electronics had any power. Nothing was left on. Jumped it, got it back and at first the A/C was confused and blowing to the windshield even when the screen said it was to the front, and the best part is the Stop/Start says it needs service now and is throwing a check engine light. Turned off the car turned it back on and the A/C is fixed, but the Stop/Start and check engine light are here to stay. Any of y'all get a Stop/Start service message with your power loss?

Hey, Security_Britt. Have you had the chance to get your Jeep to the dealer yet? If so, send our team a private message with details on the appointment and we can dig in.

I have and it was a handful of TCM updates and they ordered the rear latch, seems to be the common denominator here.

We got it back yesterday, so far, working as it should have. Latch was replaced, I can post the work summary.

My advice, be patient, understand the part is back ordered, with my situation the dealer was able to escalate, get Stelantis leadership involved, connected me with a retention specialist. I remained calm, professional, didn’t ask for anything, I asked for everyone involved to just do what’s right by me, assuming they were in my situation.

So far, the dealer and Stelantis/FCA, well, they are taking care of us, above and beyond my expectations, it was very worth having to deal with not having the vehicle for a month and the numerous headaches. Be patient folks, it pays off, literally.

Absolutely agree! This is what I needed. We bought my L on Wednesday last week and the battery has died twice (dealer took it once and did diagnostics and couldn't find the problem). Hoping to get this all resolved soon. 🤞

Can someone please translate this from my service manager: appears that while we were diagnosing and inspecting your Jeep, the battery threshold went below that number. On some vehicles, when this happens a message saying battery charging will appear. On your Jeep it simply says start/stop not available and no other details. Going further with the auxiliary battery, it runs the control modules and accessories when the start/stop functions. The more options running, the bigger the draw on that battery. Talking with my higher skilled technicians, I am told that with this design, the auxiliary battery will from time to time, not have enough voltage to allow the start/stop to function. It will need to recharge itself until the battery sensor sees enough voltage to allow start/stop operation.

So the battery is only fitting 65% threshold?

When I looked at mine on the lot it had a dead battey. It was still all wrapped up so I thought maybe someone left something on.

When I went to purchase it the salesman told me service ran a test of some type that test the electrical system and the battery to see if battery was bad. They found the rear hatch latch was bad and swapped it from another one on the lot that they have been pulling parts from. So far no battery issues in the 5 days I've had it.

Sorry for late reply, its the passenger side "entertainment" screen, from my understanding it is an option for the summit and/or was. From the pictures I have seen it is located above the glove box. Personally I have only seen pictures of this option.

Same just replaced about 4 days ago I finally got the part in and replaced. Only issue was before the latch was installed. We did not use the back lift door at all. Then a Rain storm came in with a lot of wind. The next morning dead, luckily bought a portable jumper that fit nicely in the glove box :). I was up an running. Did have similar issues that Sercurity_Britt had like A/C blowing defrost only after a jump start, but after driving for a bit and restarting it seemed to go away with a higher charge on battery but it kept discharging. Told dealership about it considering it might be a new issue or related to the latch. They where like me for the most part that the storm more likely shorted otr the old latch and activated it somehow. We are both hoping its not a different problem.

So far I am not having the battery drainage issue with the new latch. Hoping for the best it sucks this is happening to so many people.

I read the manual on different car we own it says the same auto/Stop feature will not activate when the aux battery is low voltage. Basically there is two batteries in your jeep. One for running everything and initial starting, The other is pretty much for your auto/start and stop. So lets say your in stop and go traffic multiple or red lights, this auto/stop battery is smaller typically and discharges faster, after starting a few times it may need a few minutes to charge again. So to prevent it from draining completely or worse a battery so weak it cannot start it will shutoff the auto/stop till the voltage is higher.

Yea it seemed like a really strange issue to me to have so many bad latches. I guess it must be an all new design. So far mine seems to be ok. No issue with battery draining.

Glad to see there is some sort of answer/fix for the electrical problems. I bought my GCL Overland in July and have had my battery replaced two times by the dealer. Twice dead at home and once on vacation when checking out of our hotel. Never fun to be in a far away city with a brand new vehicle and worrying about whether the battery will be dead or not. I’ve also had mine cut out, lose power, and die on me while driving to work. Pulled over and then it restarted just fine. Hopefully everything gets sorted soon. Currently in my 3rd loaner Jeep while mines in for service for electrical problems.

This certainly sounds frustrating! If you need extra support while the Jeep is with the dealer, send us a private message.

When yours just said start/stop not ready and no other info, what was found to be the issue? This is happening to mine now.

It means it needs time to charge the auto stop and start battery typically. It could be outside temp, engine conditions, like being at a stop with wheel turned will de-active most start-stop, sometimes having the gear shifter in manual will not allow it to work. Or just needs more time, on my KONA it has a timer showing a count down letting me know when it will be available again < I still turn it off. The Chevy cruze diesel was like that, just placing it in manual would turn it off, they forgot to add a feature to turn off auto stop. People figured out a relative easy way around it.

Not ready does not mean there is anything wrong, just that it is not ready for activation. Personally I disable the stupid thing every chance I get. Only time I enjoyed auto/stop was in a PHEV because at at stop it ran the electric motor and take off was smooth no delay VS these auto/stop are just annoying, delayed, run the cabin hotter and shake the ride. it saves you little above nothing in gas or emissions. They only add the feature to give you more accurate MPG figures another words it fudges the MPG readout so they can score better.

The tech said it def should say why it’s not ready. They are ordering a battery sensor.

Jeep Grand Cherokee L > Battery Discharge Issue, woke up found battery dead down to 8v dead. It was about maybe after 18 hours none use.
I charged it up took about 12 hours to charge to full which tells me typically good battery. Bad battery's typically charge fast and discharge fast.
Now this was 2 days after I bought it.
I figured maybe I left something on, by mistake. So the past two days we used it one long trip and another short one. Been off for about 14hours and Volt is down to 11v.
Now I am thinking what the heck. We been overly paranoid we left something on before. So now checking each time we get out is the 'off' is showing on Start/Stop Button, all lights off, all doors closed.
We are taking it back to the dealership to have them troubleshoot issue. Kind of sucks its only a week old and killed the battery twice. A few more times and that none deep cell is toast.
We have not modified it, its 100% stock.

I was wondering if there is someone else having this issue. Could it be something we doing, or just random bad alternator, fuse, or wiring issue. Random may mean a bigger factory issue as well.
The Jeep is a fully loaded Grand Cherokee L Summit v6. Only thing its missing is passenger side screen and Rear Seat entertainment.
Yes, I have had to have my l towed twice after only 5 weeks of ownership.
