I just purchased a 1999 WJ with the 4.7 L engine and the ac was working fine. I went out today and noticed the ac is not blowing out of the ac vents but is coming out of the defroster vents and down below. Any idea what would cause this? There is a clicking sound that is coming from behind the controls.The dial to change where their comes out of doesn’t seem to make a difference. Any help will be appreciated.

the blower door gear is broken, the new ones won't break. take out the glove box, 20$ part. you tube videos.

I thought you had to take out the whole dashboard for that! It happened multiple times to my grandparent's WJ in the early 2010s. Maybe they were just getting ripped off by the repair shop?
