Tow eye for my Summit

I have a GC L Summit. It does not come with the installed tow hooks and is supposed to have a tow eye in the tire jack tool kit. Mine is missing. Any one else notice this?

I contacted the dealer but have not heard back yet.

thanks for posting. this answers a question i’ve had about how to tow a Summit… I was going to look into adding the hooks off an overland.

Just an FYI. That eye hook is totally fine to pull a vehicle onto a flatbed but it not safe for recovery. The overlands hooks will be recovery rated.

Correct but for us that don't have them It would be helpful to have a tow eye for regular towing. I know some tow truck drivers carry them but still.

Fully agree. It should have been included for our summits. Was just responding to GC Chief because I wasn't sure if he wanted recovery points or just a tow point. Seen a ton of people use the eye hooks for recovery points. And then have them break and create projectiles.

thanks all! yeah, fully understand the limited use of eye hook, and will still be looking for a way to put recovery hooks on. but this just lowered my priority from a “must address” post-sale to something I have to address before going off road (which will always be light anyway for the GCL…save the rough stuff for the JT). As far as putting recovery hooks on, I know the painful answer is it may require a bumper swap, but I’m hoping once I can look into it closely that some other option exists.

I was pretty disappointed that the summit didn't have recovery hooks too. Just because I like comfort doesn't mean I won't do something stupid off-road... or need to help someone else get unstuck and need those solid anchor points. I've pulled plenty of people out of ditches on the side of the road in snowy weather with all my jeeps.

Hopefully there will be some aftermarket options in the coming years to retrofit on.

I just heard back from my dealer and he ordered me a tow eye so at least I will have something in case I need a tow. I have my tow hitch on the back.

Just went to the dealership to order my Tow Hook Eye aswell, also missing were the plaques inside the bumper (front and rear) to screw the Hook Eye into... pretty bummed the Summit doesn't have Rated Tow Hooks like the overland.

I guess I better check mine to make sure it has a place to screw my tow eye in.

I just checked mine and there is no place to screw in the tow eye front or rear. I do have the towing package so I can use that. Copying @JeepCares

Just checked the rear bumper on my wife's SR. No hookup for the eye hook. Its odd
I just put a hitch receiver on. The cross member in the back that you have to take off has the eye threads in it. It’s a simple swap if you want to take the rear bumper off. Lol. But if anyone is local to northern NJ I can give you the part to help a fellow jeeper out since I don’t need them anymore. Just have someone put the part on for you. It’s a total of 6 21 MM bolts.
