Grand Cherokee L radio not playing

Dealership asked me to bring the car to the dealership to run the full diagnostics again on the no sound issue, requested by jeep engineers, looks like it's the amplifier issue. Will post more once will have more details.
Hi All, Finally after 6 times bringing the vehicle to the dealership, they ran all types of diagnostic, because if not Jeep was not approved to replace the Radio unit. The issue was the Radio unit, Amplifier is ok, the connectivity between radio and amplifier is ok.

so basically Jeep authorized the radio unit replacement, after 7 days radio unit was delivered and replaced in my jeep grand Cherokee l. Now it's working fine, and one more detail I observed before was sometimes disconnecting car play or android auto, now is stable.

it took me around 40 days to solve the problem.

They replaced the head unit (maybe just the guts, not the actual screen) and now it no longer flashes, Nav seems to work, XM radio works but only plays the 'intro' channel (says it has no subscription), and my iPhone connects on wired CarPlay but not Bluetooth and not wireless Carplay, and my wife's iPhone won't connect at all (both are iPhone 12's and on 15.2.1 software. I updated iPhone to 15.3.1 but haven't tried it to see if that helps. So, it's 'improved' but still not right.

The McIntosh speakers rattle seemingly all the door panels, worse than before, but that's another issue.

My jeep L is only 6 months old and audio cut out. Same thing nothing worked with factory rests or regular reset. Dealership has to put new radio on this month. Jeep has been a dud so far and I’m glad it’s a lease.

@JeepCares…after months of dealing with the radio not working..no sound, blue tooth, etc. My brand new car sitting at the dealership for over a month. Star report finally being done waiting for a BRAND new radio (not refurbished)..I get it installed thinking after all of these months everything is going to be ok. NOPE..it’s stuck in Italian and Metric!!!! No matter what you do…turn it off and everything is BACK in Italian and metric!! Brought it back to the dealership they don’t know what to do but open another star report. I keep in constant contact with U Connect so there’s a report kept open. @JeepCares take this piece of crap back!! I’m a hospice nurse that depends on EVERYTHING in my car working properly…my patients don’t need me at the dealership they need me at their bedside! This is ridiculous!!

Had new unit put in my Summit Reserve yesterday and so far everything is working great. Carplay connects every time and everything seems to be working. Fingers crossed.

My 2021 SR with 6400 miles has been nothing but problems. It has been in the shop for a myriad of issues over the past year totaling over 30 days. I was hopeful the issues were sorted out but as of today, I have a silent radio. The reboots do no good. It is just dead silent and the system does not take spoken commands any longer either.

My 2021 GCL Overland with the McIntosh system just lost the ability to play any audio — no radio, no SiriusXM, no CarPlay audio, etc. When I turn the volume up, all I hear is low-level static accompanied by a recurring series of thumping sounds (four in a row - as in “thump, thump, thump, thump” in rapid succession).

The car has worked fine up until this point. A few small issues here or there but nothing major since we bought it about a year ago. The vehicle has 2000 miles on it & reports software version FCA-MY21.R17.98.PROD.

I tried the “reset radio” option noted earlier in this thread several times, to no avail. I also tried pushing in the volume and tune buttons at the same time until the screen reset, and that too didn’t help. Interestingly enough, the static/thumping noise does stop for a short time during the radio reset process.

So what’s next? I haven’t done a factor reset yet because I’m reluctant to lose all the various settings we have programmed in, and I don’t want to lost our SiriusXM (paid) subscription, Internet subscription, etc. Should I just take the car in to the dealer? Thanks for any suggestions.

I've had all kinds of problems with mine, and I would definitely take it to the dealer. It may be a module, but sounds like a problem with the amplifier or Uconnect hardware. They can try reloading the software, but can also scan for all manner of error codes which may point straight to the affected component if that's the problem. Getting parts took months in my case, and things don't sound much more promising these days. If it's a part it needs, then get it ordered ASAP.

So I took the vehicle in to the dealer and — no surprise — they said that they cannot identify the source of the problem and so had to open a STAR file to elevate it. My guess based on earlier posts in this thread is that this will end up with the dealer ordering a replacement U-Connect head unit or a replacement for the McIntosh amp, after several weeks (or worse) of delay. Hopefully things go more smoothly than that, but I am not holding my breath.

It took 3 weeks for my replacement head unit to arrive. Good luck….

Hi Steph. What's the story on these radios? Mine was replaced after it finally completely failed, but the new one cuts in and out on CarPlay, it still flashes once in a while, and we frequently have trouble getting it to connect to phones by any of the various means. It seems like all kinds of people are having all manner of problems. Is there any known ETA on actually solving all of these issues, do they even know what causes all of these things for so many people? Or will many of them probably never work right?

Hi Sarge,

I can say the proper teams are aware of the concerns you mentioned and they're working on addressing them in an upcoming update. However, I have not been provided with an ETA of the release at this time. If you'd like us to verify the current software version on your system, I'm happy to check if you'd like to message us your VIN.

That's ok, thanks for the reply, but no need to look up the VIN. My 2021 is finally getting turned in next week, after 11 months of problems. I'm nine months into working with one of your Executive Referral Managers on a replacement, though, so I'm mainly concerned whether they've maybe solved the problems in the '23 MY. I was just hoping to hear that maybe they'd solved the issue on the new cars, and were implementing the solutions on the older cars.

The dealership needed about 10 days for a new radio unit to come in. I drove the car without sound during that period. Then the dealership installed the new radio unit. The sound now works, but CarPlay now cuts in and out (and has been more difficult to set up than before) and other services are not working properly either. For example, no matter what I do, I cannot get the car to activate the WiFi hotspot. When I fill in the name I want to assign to the network, the system just forgets that name within seconds — it won’t hold. Same for the password. And the” software update over WiFi” option seems buggy or outright not working.

All this may clear up in a few days. That’s what I experienced with the vehicle’s original radio.

EDIT TO ADD: I contacted Jeep support through the “assistance” app in the vehicle. They has me reset the radio and then try to set up the hotspot. When that failed twice (I entered a hotspot name, clicked the check mark, and then the hotspot name showed up for two seconds but then disappeared), they said the vehicle needs to go back to the dealer. Some internet sleuthing suggests that this is a problem with fuse A49, but I’m not going to mess with fuses. This is a big disappointment, esp. for a car with under 2500 miles on it.
