UConnect/Apple CarPlay issues

I’m having frustrating issues with Apple CarPlay. Both, my iPhone X and my wife’s iPhone 12, are no longer able to use CarPlay after 2 days of ownership. They were working fine when we left the dealership in our GCL Summit, but by the next day, Carplay disappeared from the apps menu, and UConnect gets stuck “connecting” to the phone. So far my only work around is to do a factory reset from the UConnect menu. However the problem comes back in less than a day. If I avoid a factory reset and just try to delete the connection (from both UConnect and our phones) and re-establish it, UConnect only sees our phones as music and calling capable. The CarPlay function completely disappears in UConnect. I’m not really sure what causes it, at first I thought it was because my wife used the usb cable instead of wireless CarPlay. But it happened again, without any cable use.
Anyone having any similar issues with Apple CarPlay in their GCL?

Any suggestions for a workaround that doesn’t involve losing all of our presets and profiles?

I contacted UConnect but they could only offer me a call back from a tech rep. I’ll be contacting my local service department tomorrow, but after googling around to find a solution, I’m not confident Stellantis has a fix, since CarPlay issues are affecting 2020 vehicles and other versions of UConnect.

No issue with our GCL Overland but I’ll keep an eye on it. We did have a problem with initial setup. Had to restart our phones to get it to finally connect.

We certainly regret to hear this so soon in your ownership, Irb Digital! Send our team a private message with more details and we can dig in further.

Mine has connection issues. Drives me nuts. I have Android. It'll connect every so often wireless but I have to reset all the time. USB works fine though.

Our Apple Car Play doesn't work and never has!! Driving me crazy!!
Ours did the same thing at the dealer day of pickup. What worked for us was to connect iPhone via Bluetooth and then restart the phone. Then click the car play icon when you are in manage devices on the GCL display. Not sure if that will work for you but it fixed our issue at pickup not being able to get car play to connect and work.

Thanks for all the tips. The next day after I posted this, I updated to the just released iOS update. That didn’t appear to change anything. A few hours later, or the next day (I think) I received a prompt on my iPhone to configure CarPlay. I said yes, and it started working again. I was contacted by UConnect tech support while it was working and we opted to close the case. Shortly after the call, I drove to the store and it was working fine. However it went back “connecting” indefinitely when got back in the vehicle. The only thing I noticed that may have caused it, was my phone automatically connected the grocery store’s wifi connection. So I called UConnect back, and after some troubleshooting (which included activating and connecting my phone to the vehicle’s built-in wifi, we’re back to ground zero with UConnect stuck “connecting” to my phone. I can get limited (calling and music use m, but no CarPlay) use back if I choose to delete the phone from UConnect and re-do the pairing process.

If the UConnect reps can’t figure this out, it looks like a service appointment will be my next step. Again, thx for the tips. I’m trying anything at this point.

I have the same issue with my Summit. I’m halfway through week 2 owning it and it started at the one week mark. It did connect today but of course disconnected when I was in the phone. it doesn’t matter if connected via cable or wireless. I thought it was my phone getting hot on the wireless charger so plugged it in and put it on the AC seats. Still happened. Same iPhone works fine in my other cars.

Oh no, Shoreguy732! We can discuss this further with you to see where we can assist in private message. You can also try calling the Uconnect Team directly at 1-877-855-8400 to go through their troubleshooting steps.

Do you pair more than one phone to your vehicle? Also, it might be just coincidence, but the problems seem to appear when the active phone is in the vicinity of another known connection. It happened when I was closely following my wife and her phone connect to both of our vehicles at the same time. It happened when my phone joined the network of the store I was shopping in. It also happened in my driveway, which may have been triggered by still being connected to my home network. This is all just observation, so take it with a grain of salt, but my background is in avionics and this issue is triggering my instincts to duplicate the cause and isolate the faulty item. Hopefully those who have issues can contribute to this thread to help with troubleshooting.

Just hopped in the vehicle this morning and my phone asked me if I wanted to use CarPlay. So of course it’s working again, just in time for my service appt tomorrow lol. It’ll probably work just fine for them. I guess it’s possible it takes some time (over night) for UConnect to fully shut down before a full system restart happens, which may be why it finally recognized my phone as CarPlay capable.

Just to add to the conversation, my Limited dropped CarPlay yesterday while traveling out of state. Just dropped away while I was driving. I tried all the “tricks” I could think of…turning phone off/on, turning car off/on, disconnecting, unpairing, AUX cord, cooling off the phone…nothing worked to get it back on. This morning I drove a few miles away and back home, then magically the CarPlay option showed back up and started working again. I’ve only had the Jeep 6 days today, so this is going on my list of things to tell the dealership when I take it back in to them for touch ups on the paint.

Weird how this problem isn’t consistent.
Now, regarding the paint chips: when did you notice them? What was the cause?
Thanks!

It’s happened a few more times but I did get an appointment with the dealer. Hopefully they have some answers.

I took mine to the service department and they plugged up their diagnostic tool. It listed 5 faults for the antennas. The tech told me they were so backed up that they wouldn't be able to look at my vehicle for another 4-5 days. Loaner vehicles are also not available, so I decide just to live with the annoying CarPlay issues for now. But the tech did make it sound like an antenna fault could definitely be the issue. It sucks that the vehicle basically came from the factory with faulty equipment, but its a bit reassuring that it's most likely not a software issue it can be fixed with the correct replacement parts. I was also informed there will be a UConnect update coming down the line and owners will be issued USB sticks to perform the update to their vehicles.

I have had my Overland since Friday and Apple Car Play never shows up on my screen anymore. Very frustrating! Worked like a charm for about 2 days.

I wil call the dealer and suggest it. I do have a loaner right now from them while they fix a scratch that was there on delivery. They will be investigating the uconnect issue.

Hi;
Have you find something yet? I have the same problem. My fix was using the cable. But I want it wirelessly.
