Grand Cherokee L radio not playing

New to the forum but I needed to chime in on this subject. My issues were initially intermittent until completely lost all radio function. One week later, the dealer is still working with Chrysler on a solution to the problem. If I am to believe what they tell me, it’s not one simple software upgrade that will solve everyone’s issues. Apparently jeep is making it very difficult for them to simply warranty radios for new replacements

I have the same miserable problem. My screen went dark once on the second day I owned it, cycling the headlight switch fixed it. Then wireless CarPlay started dropping, then it just snowballed into all sorts of problems, progressively getting worse and worse. Now my whole Uconnect system is just FUBAR.

My dealer "ordered a new radio", whatever that means, but it's going to take a month or more to get the parts. Based on what I've read here, it still may not all work properly.

Dealership asked me to bring the car to the dealership to run the full diagnostics again on the no sound issue, requested by jeep engineers, looks like it's the amplifier issue. Will post more once will have more details.

that is the latest news with my vehicle - they are replacing the amplifier this AM in hopes that solves the issue

Just found this forum.
All audio in my GCL died in early December. Local dealer tried replacing the amp. No change. Checked wiring…still no fix. Dealer said they needed to order a new radio…but it won’t arrive until April 20th.

April 20th!!!! No Bluetooth calling, no navigation audio, no CarPlay audio, no radio…

Those of you who got a replacement radio…did you dealership have to jump through extraordinary hoops?

Mine had to get it released by a STAR tech at corporate. Supposed to be here the end of January. Two days with it working right, then two months with nothing working correctly.

Forgive the ignorance but what is STAR? Seen it referenced a few times?
STAR means you formally file a case with Jeep for an issue. It gives the dealership access to higher level resources who are supposed to be more technical.

The were unable to resolve my radio issue.

If your dealer has a new Jeep on their lot with an identical radio as yours, they could get permission from Stellantis to rob the radio from the stock unit to install in your Jeep. After my Army retirement, I worked at a Jeep service department and we did this all the time. This was when FCA was the only owner of Jeep, so things may have changed under Stellantis ownership. When the replacement radio arrives in April, it can be installed in the dealer's stock unit.

Moar dealers have such historically low inventory, I'd be shocked if any were willing to do that these days.

Sound stopped coming out of my radio a week ago today. I had CarPlay engaged and put my iPhone on silent to go inside to a class. When I came out there was no sound coming out of my radio. Have no idea if the two are related or just coincidental. Have taken it to my dealer and they had it all day and said they cannot fix it. They have also turned it over to the Star tech. They haven’t told me what will happen next. It stinks to have a brand new vehicle and not be able to listen to the radio or use CarPlay.

There have been problems with the head unit and the McIntosh amp. If your dealer has the new WL-specific code reader, they should be able to pull the codes. There seem to be a lot of vehicles affected by this, so the STAR techs are familiar and should be able to diagnose it and release a part to your dealer. My dealer could see the error codes, but had to open a STAR case to get the parts; otherwise their system won't even let them order the parts. Mine is going in Wednesday (after nearly the full two months of initial ownership living with all these problems). and we'll see if putting in a new head unit fixes it all (my screen flashes constantly, and I have no XM or Nav, ever, and often no hands free calling, CarPlay, etc etc etc.

Anyone had any luck with the latest Apple updates to your phone ios 15.3. I updated last night and my phone connected to the carplay automatically this morning, which is not normal. Not sure if its a fluke but wondering if it could be an Apple issue/fix?

Has anyone had any issues with the radio not playing on the Grand Cherokee L? The speakers work but the radio is not playing.
I've had a problem with it. Happens every so often, not always. Been to the dealer 4 times with it. They keep doing updates and its not working. I'm getting pretty frusterated. My last 2015 Jeep had no problems at all, I want that one back 😥

If you find anything that helps, please post. I will do the same

I'm not sure how to make this visible to everyone but I posted my initial non-working radio experience earlier. Heres what happened after several failed attempts to fix the issue (amps, wiring, updates, etc)

2021 Grand Cherokee L Limited (purchased on 10/27/21)
  • Initial issue were intermittent no radio function. Re-set would usually do the trick
  • Total time at dealership = 28 days
  • Ultimate fix = new radio from STAR (took 10 days to arrive)
  • FCA reimbursed me for car payment & car rentals
  • In California if vehicle is at dealer for 30 days they must buy it back and reimburse you for everything (down payments, car payments, etc) - can't help but think this is why they came through in 28 days
  • Dealer service department said the know it's an issue but have to follow every instruction given to them by STAR to warranty the radio unit. This involves all kinds of trouble shooting
I've had the car back for 5 days and so far so good BUT we did lose out on the 1 year Sirius trial (new radio ID and the VIN has already been used). Not a big deal, at this point I just want the issues resolved. BTW I also own a 2020 Grand Cherokee with ZERO issues to date.

Good luck everyone...I feel your pain!!!

If it's any consolation the Sirius trial is only six months.
